Introduction: House Stark Crest From Trash Wood
I made this to go inside a fence I am rebuilding.
Step 1: Prepping the Stencil and Cutting the Wood.
I decided on an 11 x 17 size stencil. It didn't fit exactly so I had to place the lower part of the stencil on the top and reattach it later. I cut out the stencil.
The 2x4 wood was cut to 17 inches in length. Four stacked is roughly 14 inches. They are attached by two metal brackets. Place the brackets close to the two ends to keep from hitting the screws when carving the relief.

Step 2: Prep the Wood, Glue the Stencil and Cut.
After you have screwed the bracket and it is nice and secure, sand down the wood schmutz, and glue down the stencil.
The black strokes will be carved out. I used a Dremel. I cut straight down about half an inch. The crest will have a recessed relief look to it. BE CAREFUL WITH THE TEETH!

Step 3: Carving the Relief.
The tufts of hair are carved down. I carved into the under part of the tufts. The teeth are carved. Smooth down the surrounding area of the relief.
Step 4: Add Black Paint to Create Shadow.
Mix acrylic paint and water to make a medium consistency. Not thin and not thick. Add as shown or however you add it.
Step 5: Sand Down and Stain.
First let the paint dry...then sand down the wood so it looks pretty. This wood is Redwood so I added a light stain that brought out the color. Let dry.
I have not yet added this to the fence. I plan to cut the fencing out and set it into the fence rather than having it attached onto the fence.
You can use any stencil you want to make your own. I thought it would be helpful to show you how I was able to make mine.
