Introduction: How to Fix Annoying Elastic Backed Flats

You know the pair... The super cute flats that you found at Target or Nordstrom Rack for super cheap. You love them, but after an hour or so you're ready to walk around barefooted because the back of your heels are killing you. Here's a simple fix... Be aware, this isn't a 'do it right before you leave' project. The adhesive needs to set properly, or you'll wind up tossing your cute shoes in the nearest trash can!

Step 1: Step 1

Gather materials: - annoying shoes - craft clamps or clothespins (you can get these at the dollar store) - seam ripper - a good adhesive: Liquid Fusion, E-6000, Gorilla Glue, etc.

Step 2: Step 2

Examine your shoe! If there is a back seam, don't mess with it. You'll want to make your openings on either side of it. Gently, slide the seam ripper between the inner and outer of the shoe, and make about a 1" opening.

Step 3: Step 3

Gently pull apart the opening you've made (you should have 2- one on each side of the heel of the shoe), using the seam ripper, carefully slice the elastic from the top edge to the bottom.

Step 4: Step 4

Now, pull out your trusty adhesive. Spread a thin layer of the glue in the opening. PRO TIP: you can always add more glue, it's a lot harder to clean up extra globs when they ooze. Using the clamps or clothespins, press the two sides together and let dry according the the manufacturer's instructions. If it says 24 hours, let it dry (leaving clamps ON) for the full 24 hours!! You're done! Rock those flats without wanting to chop off your feet! :)
