Intro: How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

Do you know to fold a fitted sheet - do you really know how? It is a mystery to me on why we can never fold the fitted sheet back into the nice little rectangle that once was for easy storage. You can ask my husband - he has no idea on how to fold it either. He just makes a nice rolled up balled up mess that he calls folded and then puts it away in our linen closet. I can go over to friends homes and sneak a peek at their linen closet and once again not a folded fitted sheet in sight. Just a big old mess. My dear sweet grandma should me long ago - how to fold a fitted sheet. Here is my lesson to you - and yes I am going to teach my husband once again on how to fold the fitted sheet and this time I hope he remembers.

STEP 1: Getting the Fitted Sheet Ready for Folding

Here we have my husband eagerly awaiting my folding instructions. Get your fitted sheet ready!

STEP 2: Finding the Corners/points

With you pointer finger - put them each into to ends of the fitted sheet. I always start with the top or bottom points of the sheet- the shorter distance. Here my husband has his two fingers at each end inside the sheet. Find your points!

STEP 3: Bring the Two Point Together

In this step bring your two fingers together. Bring over one side - ride side over to meet the other point. Almost like a mirror image crossing over to the other side. Follow the pictures carefully!

STEP 4: Bringing Up the Other 2 Points

You are going to repeat the same steps 2 and 3 for the following points until you have all points overtop of each other on your other hand.

STEP 5: All Points Together

This is what you should look like after you get all point together.

STEP 6: Different Angles of the Folded Sheet

Here are different angles of what you should have after you get all points together. My husband is so excited - we are almost finished

STEP 7: Finishing the Folding

This next step is best when you place the sheet on a flat surface. With the sheet on the flat surface bring over one side half way over - then bring over again so you get a nice neat rectangle.

STEP 8: You Are All Done!

Now you have a nice neat folded fitted sheet. Please go put it away and refold all the other ones that you may have setting in you linen closet that are a mess.

If my husband can fold it you can too!

this does not work for my sheets, we have an overstuffed queen mattress and all our fitten sheets have elastic around the entire edge. it almost makes a circle so after i put all four corners together i end up with a realy funky shape afterword.

Haha, yeah I was messing with some sheets with the elastic all the way around for like 20 minutes before I realized what was going on. This still works somewhat, but I end up with a funky triangle.

So it took long to reply - Does your sheets at least have a seam at the 4 corners - like in step 2. I guess you could make your own "corners" and try and fold it the excect same way. It should work perfectly. Let me know if it works out!

great instuctables though, those fitted sheets always bug me to death, i like i straight linen closet and they always fool it. after i read this as soon as i got home i tried it, doesnt work though

I will have to show this to my wife, she hasn't a clue as to how to fold them, and I tend to just tuck and fold until I get it square ;-)

I found this really great video on youtube for a new product called Fit&Fold. It makes folding fitted sheets so easy. Each button is labeled so it makes folding practically fool proof. I like to create sheet set "packages" by putting the folded flat sheet and pillowcases inside the fitted sheet. Then I just grab a "pack" when it's time to change the bedding.

Funny. I put my poorly-folded fitted sheet and flat sheet inside the pillowcase -- a natural bag to keep everything together in a set.

Wow!! I also put my sheets and one pillowcase inside the other pillowcase. It makes a nice neat "package" and keeps the sheets from wrinkling (if they were folded right that is) And I agree with you lancmaltby...I so enjoy being able to fold my fitted sheets so nicely. I love the package idea - When I get home tonight I am going to reorganize my linen closet. I just had it set up with all the pillows cases together , flat sheets together and so on - you way makes it so much easier!! Thanks so much!

Your Instructable was very good. However, if you expect your husband to "remember" I'm afraid you're in for a disappointment. Husband's seldom remember these things - how else would they get out of helping around the house? I'm speaking from 50 years of marriage knowledge.

Ok, it's sad, but this actually makes me anxious to get home and fold a sheet. I've always been vexed by those things. Now, if I could just find a way to make the flat sheet stay centered on the bed instead of pulling way over to one side or the other in the night...
