How to Make Homemade Potato Chips

Introduction: How to Make Homemade Potato Chips

Homemade chips are an easy alternative to your average ever day packaged potato chip. These instructions will give step by step directions on how to make this tasteful treat. With help from these instructions you can provide a cheap delicious treat for friends, family, or even personal use.

Step 1: Step 1: Assemble Materials Needed

The materials one will need in order to make homemade chips are
1. Deep Fat Fryer (Any brand will work)
2. Vegetable Oil (canola oil and peanut oil work also)
3. Red Idaho Potatoes
4. Cutting Knife
5. Mandoline Slicer
6. Wooden Spoon
7. Bowl
8. Paper Towel
9. Salt

Step 2: Step 2: Wash Potatoes

Before starting the process wash the Red Idaho Potatoes under some water to clean them off. Make sure to clean all potatoes.

Step 3: Step 3: Cut of Ends and "Eyes"

Using a cutting knife, cut the ends of the potatoes off and any eyes. The eyes are the holes in the potatoes. Peeling the potatoes is optional.

Caution: Knife is sharp

Step 4: Step 4: Slicing the Potatoes

Using the mandoline slicer, cut the potatoes into thin slices.

Caution: Mandolin Slicer is sharp

Step 5: Step 5: Pour Oil Into Deep Fat Fryer

Use the oil of choice (canola, peanut, vegetable) and pour two quarts into deep fat fryer.

Step 6: Step 6: Turn Fryer to 375 Degrees

Turn the fryer to 375 degrees. Put the cut potato slices into the fryer.

Caution: Oil may splatter

Step 7: Step 7: Cook Potatoes Until Golden Brown

Let the potatoes sit in the fryer until golden brown. Make sure to stir potatoes once to ensure that they do not stick together.

Step 8: Step 8: Set Up Bowl for Chips

Obtain a bowl and line it with a paper towel. So that grease will not go all over.

Step 9: Step 9: Taking Out the Chips

Once the chips are golden brown take the fryer basket out and dump the chips into the bowl lined with a paper towel.

Step 10: Step 10: Prepare for Serving

Once the chips are in the lined bowl, added some salt and shake it up so that the salt reaches all the chips. Don't put to much on otherwise it will take away from the flavor of the chips.

Caution: Chips will be hot.

Step 11: Step 11: Enjoy

Once the chips cool down they are ready to eat. For more chips repeat steps 1-11.

It's a good instructable but some of the pictures are probably from the web. It's better to leave out the pictures out than to use some that aren't yours. Otherwise, nice directions! :)

The only reason that it matters might be because of copy right laws. It really isn't a big deal, though.
