Intro: How to Make Song Covers on YouTube - What You Need

Ok, first, you need a video editor to edit everything (for Windows, I recommend Windows Movie Maker), whether you want to make a music video or just point the camera at you while you're singing it. Next, you need an Ipod or any other music playing device, like an MP3 player or smart phone that has the song you want to sing, then put on some headphones and plug them into the device that has the song. That will help you sing with the music to make sure you don't go ahead or behind the song. Now you need a decent camcorder or smartphone to record the video. 720p is the minimum to record with, if it is not HD, most people won't listen to your cover. But full HD, 1080p is recommended. A good singing voice is also needed! Now, you can use the camera's microphone or get a better quality one.

Once you have all that, lets begin...

STEP 1: Step 1

Take the camera and point it at you, put on the headphones and start the song. Start MOUTHING the words that you want to sing, don't actually sing it.

STEP 2: Step 2

Now take that better quality microphone or the camera's microphone (if you use the camera's mic, use an online video conversion service to convert the video file to audio to edit it later on top of your first video of when you mouthed the lyrics), and start to ACTUALLY sing the song this time.

STEP 3: Step 3

Now you should have a video of you mouthing the lyrics which you want people to see, a video or mp3 of you actually singing, and the original song without vocals. If you have a video of you singing, just convert it to an audio format later.

STEP 4: Step 4

Now take the video of you mouthing the lyrics in the editor and add the audio file of you singing it. Now line them up so you look like your singing.

STEP 5: Step 5

Now export it to a video file. Put it back in the editor and take the actual music to the song without vocals and line that up as well.

STEP 6: Step 6

Now enjoy your new song cover!!! (also don't forget to upload it to YouTube!)

Do I have to own a mechanical license in order to post a video of me singer a cover song on YouTube?

do you need permission from somebody to make the cover song, if yes then from whom should I take the permission ?

Ignore Thomas, as long as it isn't for profit, you good fam.
Ofcourse you dont need permission because youre not getting any money from it

Yes, you do need permission from the copyright owner to be able to upload it. If it's just to show your friends, then you don't, but if you upload it without getting the owner's permission, they can file a copyright claim, you can get a copyright strike, and possibly even get sued by the record label.

how do you get their permission?

What app would be good for recording on an iPhone??
The camera app for video, and for audio, just look up an audio app from the app store
I know but please tell what.editor should I use to edit song putting music etc
I my case i use audacity to process audio. I usually record my vocals in isolation with the minus one. Then after i edited my vocals i put the minus in additional track. When im done i simply export it as one audio file. That file is the one i use on WMM

premier pro for editing videos.

Thanks alot buddy.. You really helped mw aloy.. Love you..

When recording your voice, use headphones with a mic. I also have a 'real' mic that has a piece to plug it into your phone, that you can probably find anywhere for fairly cheap. I found that this picks up more background noises and my breaths, but if you plan to make a bunch of covers and you don't mind putting a bit of money into it, do it!

This is the cheapest version of creating a cover. Recording with a Smart-Phone or a WEBCAM?! Not in a million years!!! If you want to create a cover... you need special equipment... you can't just use a webcam or a stupid smart-phone... here is a link to my microphone: http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-Audio-Vocal-Studio-Pro-Tools-Express-M-Track-Home-Recording-Mic-Headphones-/251637943680?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a96ca4d80 +
(Some people need a pop-shield). Also get a blancet or something you can hang behind you to prevent echos. If you use a webcam-microphone or a smart-phone it will sound like you torture someone. If you don't have the money to buy the equipment, borrow it from someone else or safe your money. If you don't want to safe your money up or you think you "can't" don't even start making covers. If you think it's not worth the money then just stop. If you want to know a little more just send me a mail: wolf.nico99@gmx.de

Sorry for being rude at the beginning.
My english is not perfect. I apologize for my spelling.

I'd advise anyone who read this to not buy anything from this person or listen to anyone like them who tells you these things. They are simply trying to prey on people with a dream. Trying to Many modern smartphones have great quality video and audio recording capabilities. I have a 70 dollar webcam (Logitech C920 for those who are curious which one I'm referring to) that can record in 1080p. My Galaxy S5 can record in 1080p as well. I'll admit the audio quality for my webcam isn't great, but my phone's is stellar! Even an iPhone 4 can record audio crystal clear.

Please please PLEASE do not let this person scam you! Justin Bieber didn't need a 200 dollar microphone to be discovered an neither do you.

i wany to make a cover song and upload into youtube ..but i have no any recording equipment in chif and best so please advise me to buy the equipment pack.

Just get i movie if you have an iphone or a video editor on your computer

For video quality any smartphone that records over 720p is great. A camera is better, of course, but you can do a lot usingonly a smartphone. The audio is a bit more complitcated. It depends on how much you want to spend, but you should keep in mind that you want to buy a condenser microphone. The best cost efficiency I've seen so far is the audio technica AT2020, which costs about $100 and has an amazing quality. Another good option for a better price is the blue snowball, which costs about $50.
