Introduction: How to Make a Sweet Ipod/Electronics Case
This is How to Make a really great case for an Ipod or anything else that you need a case for. This case is really great for taking your Ipod places where it could get crushed or scratched, like in a backpack. After seeing the completed project, my uncle jokingly said, "You'd do great in Jail." Of course he was only kidding, but this case can be used to sneak your Ipod into places. Not saying you should.....
Step 1: What You Need
Here's what you need for this project
Something that you want to make a case for: Ipod, DS, PSP, Digital Camera, anything
An hard-back book. The hard-back part is essential. The spine on a paper-back isn't rigid enough and your Ipod will fall. I got mine from the "Free Books" cart in the library. Make sure that the book you chose is big enough to fit your Ipod in, with at least 1/2 inches around all sides. If there is less than 1/2 inches, your pages will tear out too easy. Also, Make sure that your book is plenty thick for your Ipod to fit in.
You will also need Razor Knifes. I used a knife similar to an Exacto-Knife, you will see it later in the instructable. I chose this knife because its blade was very small and sharp. A regular utility knife would work too as long as the blade was sharp.
This Project takes a couple of hours, depending on how big what you are making it for is.
Step 2: Trace Your Ipod
You can either Trace your Ipod on the first page or you can do as I did and trace around it about 50 pages in. This to further protect and conceal your Ipod.
Step 3: Cut Out the Pages
Start on the page you originally traced on and start cutting vertically into the book, as shown in the pictures.
WARNING: Knifes Mistake Fingers For Food.
Also, it may seem convenient at the time to cut a few pages then tear the centers out and flip a couple of pages and cut on that page but don't do this. You will eventually lose your outline and your cuts will soon become distorted and your case will not turn out right. Stay on the Page that you originally traced on and keep cutting down from there.
While you are cutting into the book, it is important that you test fit your Ipod into your hole often. This way you can be sure that your case will turn out well and that your Ipod will fit well.
Once you get to the point where your hole is the correct depth to conceal your Ipod completely (when the book is closed) you are finished.
You can make your book a lot neater if you take your time and cut straight down with your knife.
On this particular case i cut out a hole so that you can plug headphones into the Ipod while it is in the book. This is very simple; you should be able to figure it out.
Thanks for Reading my First Instructable. Look forward for more to come.

err.. you could make it into one of those journals that have a little lock inside them, so you would have a case+a journal+something that prevents the book opening and making the ipod fall. Also you could use a pocket book for a cellphone or an Ipod Shuffle.

That's funny you said that about the ipod falling out of the book. I never thought it would be a problem until i was showing it to one of my less intelligent friends. I handed it to him to check out, he opened it up and my ipod took about a five foot dive to the tile floor. It ended up being fine.

Yeah I'm thinking of doing that for my little netbook, a good disguise to stop it from being stolen at school.

I used a paperback and then used spray adhesive to glue the pages together make it more rigid and to keep the pages that form the sides of the case together - so they don't separate when you open it I finished mine in <1 hour, but I didn't do as neat of a job as you did it's also easier to clean up uneven cuts after the pages are glued together

a good idea. did you glue every page together individually? if so how much adhesive did it take?

I kinda riffled through the pages while I sprayed the adhesive, let it dry, then sprayed more to get the places I missed. I also sprayed around the inside of the compartment so that the sides would be completely solid It didn't take too much adhesive... I used more than I needed because I used a paperback book and wanted extra rigidity... a couple layers ought to be more than enough

nice idea. what did you build yours for/what do you put in it?

No, it is not. People ask me that all the time. I don't think even i am that horrible. It is actually a book called "Marjorie Morningstar".

To make it unique...cut out an opening for the headphones, so you can still use it while it is in the book.

If you read into the instructable and look at the pictures closely I did cut a slot for the headphones so that when you have them plugged in the wider plug part fits in the slot and the cord can run out between the pages. If you do this you have to open up the book about half-way through your cut out then put your Ipod in with the headphones in. This way it doesn't screw up the wire so bad.
