How Not to - Whiskey Flash Drive

Intro: How Not to - Whiskey Flash Drive

Well the idea's solid and perfectly do-able, I just happened to destroy the only baby bottle of whiskey I have other than JD, which isn't a good shape, vodka bottles are clear which I though ruined the idea a bit.

People always give me baby booze and I never throw the bottles out since they're so little and seem so keepable for no specific reason...

STEP 1: Tools and Materials

Tools:
 - You'll need a dremel or a drill and some steady hands, I used a monstrous Ryobi that can barely be held in one hand and the smallest bit I could find
 - A stanley or craft knife, an exacto style one might work too though the blades slip or bend out of the holder very easily
 - Glue, hot glue, super glue something gluey...

Materials
 - A little liquor bottle of your choice, needs to be plastic
 - A flash drive, I used an 8GB Sandisk Cruzer
 - Clear cast resin and colouring dependent on your liquor

STEP 2: Starter Holes

I marked the USB hole with a knife then drilled holes in as a starter to making the slot for the USB, the slot must be large enough to accomodate the largest bit of the drive since there's no way to put it in from the other end.

Take care and run the drill slow until the hole's started, piloted wood bits work nicely because the point sticks in to the plastic and stops the drill from slipping.

If you have a dremel and a cutoff wheel you could cut the hole and finish it with that instead of the next step.

STEP 3: Knifing Around

After drilling the starter holes use a sharp knife to cut the edges in and finish making the hole.

STEP 4: Slide in the Flash Drive

Slide the flash drive in, lining it up and maybe using something to hold it in place.

STEP 5: Don't Try to Look at It in the Computer.

This is how I ruined the project, I slid the flash drive out a bit and put it in to the USB port, slid the bottle down to see how the finished project would look and slid it too far.

On taking the drive out by pulling the bottle it popped inside the bottle and became rather trapped, like mutilate the bottle trapped.

STEP 6: If You Managed Not to Mess Up Like Me.

Glue the drive in to place, sealing around the drive carefully.

Make up your resin, around 45-50mls will make it look like a full bottle, fill up through the top, hence sealing the bottom of the bottle.

Enjoy a non failed version of this project...

use a rotary tool for example a dremel, turn the bottle upside down fill and place usb drive into the bottle, let set
Nice idea, but I think I would be a lot cooler if you combine it with a mechanism. For example if the cap is turned the usb flash drive will come out...
how about those hand sanitiser bottles?
They'd probably work well though maybe not be quite as cool...

I've something similar in mind for a JD bottle...

Cool, I have a few lying around but most of them are old glass ones...
You can fit 4 AAs in a miniature...

Oh I was thinking the 50mls, gotcha now, that could be a sweet project.
it's like one of those boats in a bottle, except it's a flash drive.... just put it on a little pedestal and pretend you tried it =P
Hah, if the drive wasn't important I would but it's the one with all my files on it. Clearly should learn something about experimenting on broken things first here...
I find mini tequila bottles in the ground where I live all the time. Too bad I never find full ones!
Jose Cuervo would probably work nicely for this project.
Nice project, unlucky slip up!
Now you're just going to have to go out and buy more tiny bottles of booze! Oh no!
Actually people give them to me so I've to deal with the horror, the absolute horror of drinking free alcohol!
Jeezez that sounds terrible. I remember once for a birthday, I had a pinata that people filled with tiny bottles of liquor. Best 7th birthday ever. (kidding. about the 7th part. . . ) Seriously though, if you ever need help with all that free booze, you let me know. We've got a team in place for these situations.
Yah, I went to a friend's party once and he had two piñatas full of nips. Was good fun. I don't want to give the impression that I'm some sorta habitual drunkard, but I do love drinking.
I go to the offies and this appears but Friday night and heading to a party... Also summer is upon us, sun beers are a reason to love drinking...
