I suggest putting a few inches of water with a squirt of dish soap in the bucket if you want to make this a trap that kills the mice.

aww that's cruel, a spring trap is more humane. I just took everything out of my cupboards, sprayed peppermint oil after cleaning and am leaving them empty. Without food or things to hide behind the real estate is not so attractive to mice.
