Introduction: How to Build a Miniature English Wheel

About: My name is Kayvan and I have a YouTube channel named Kayvan Crafted. on this channel, I am going to cover my projects which mostly are crafting, making, woodworking, fabrication, repairs, maintenance, welding,…

It's been a while since I had the idea of making a miniature size English wheel in my head. Then I noticed by using a simple clamp, I would be halfway there. So here is a tutorial on how to convert a simple clamp into an English Wheel.

Step 1:

The first step is removing the lower jaw by grinding the bottom notch and then cutting the flat part on the movable jaw.

Step 2:

Then I drilled four holes into the fixed jaw and tapped them.

Step 3:

I used a medium-sized ball bearing as the mainwheel and bolted it to the fixed jaw. For the moving jaw, I used two smaller ballbearings, one for neutralizing the spinning of the handle and another one as the anvil.

Step 4:

Then I made a piece of metal to hold the ball-bearing housing on the moving jaw into the clamp's body.

Step 5:

To make this metal piece does the job I had to weld it into the ball-bearing housing on the moving jaw.

Step 6:

In the end, I tested my English wheel on a piece of copper sheet, and it worked just fine, although adding some curve to the smaller ball bearing, which acted as an anvil, would have been a nice Idea.
