Introduction: How to Change an Air Filter on a 1972 Pontiac
Today I will be showing how to change out my air filter and air filter housing on my custom 1972 pontiac lemans.
-Nate B.
Step 1: Identify the Vehicle
First step is to identify the vehicle. Today we will be on working on a 1972 pontiac lemans sport. It is good to identify the vehicle in case you need to look up anything for it
Step 2: Locate the Air Filter
Since this is a carbureted engine the air filter is located at the top.
Step 3: Remove the Housing
Remove the spin nut at the top to be able to remove the top of the air filter housing
Step 4: Remove Housing Acess
Remove to top plate to find the air filter located underneath
Step 5: Air Filter Inspection
Remove the old air filter to inspect if it is dirty or not. I put it next to the new one to show the comparison
Step 6: Housing Inspection
After removing the air filter, Inspect the inside of the housing for debris. This one would need to be cleaned out
Step 7: Install the New Housing and Air Filter
Install the new air filter and its housing. Since I'm using a different style air filter housing, I changed both it and the air filter. This new one will allow it to breathe more and give it a better look
Step 8: Install the Housing Cap
Install the housing cap. I got a custom one painted for this vehicle
Step 9: Re-tighten the Nut
Hand tighten the spin nut and it is ready to go

It's nice when you're able to do fixes like this on a car rather than take it in :)
