Intro: How to Clean Condenser on Sub Zero Refrigerator

Most Sub Zero condenser coils are loaded with pollen and dust even when you can't see it. The longest a condenser should go without cleaning is 2 years, depending on how much it operates during the summer. If your cooling season is 4 months or more, annual cleaning is an excellent idea. Turn off the power to the unit, and remove any visible grass and lint from the fins and/or louvers with an old hairbrush or whisk broom. Then put on a pair of rubber gloves and spray biodegradable outdoor coil cleaner into the coil. Wait five or ten minutes and flush the coil with a gentle water spray. Keeping the condenser coil clean on your refrigerator is a major factor in efficiency and lasting performance. A dirty condenser coil causes the compressor to run too hot which can damage the compressor, cause the refrigerator to run too long, and cause a no-cool situation. It is very important to clean condenser coils on forced-air refrigerators such as side-by-side and built-in models at least twice a year (if you have a refrigerator with the black coils mounted on the back, these coils don't require semi-annual cleaning). CONSERVE ENERGY: CLEAN YOUR Sub Zero RADIATOR AND REFRIGERATOR COILS! Dirty coils force your appliances work harder, using more energy than clean coils. Regular cleaning enhances radiator and refrigerator performance, extends their lives, and can save you up to 6% on your energy bills! The refrigerator has a compressor that forces refrigerant through coils in the freezer and on the refrigerator's exterior. Evaporator coils in the freezer remove heat from inside. This heat is emitted into the room through the exterior condenser coils. If the exterior condenser coils become dirty, they are less efficient at transferring heat into the air around the refrigerator and forcing your appliance to work harder. How often should I clean my refrigerator condenser coils? For maximum performance, it is recommended you clean your refrigerator condenser coils at least twice per year, more if you have pets. How do I save money? Routine cleaning of dryer vents/ducts and refrigerator coils allow your appliances to work freely, without energy-absorbing dirt and grime found on all used appliances. Clean appliances result in lower energy bills, and may reduce your risk of a fire.

Check that blue screen on Sub Zero top control panel if any signs, error codes, warning such as "Vacuum condenser" etc.

STEP 1: Step 1

Cleaning the condenser is important for the overall operations of the unit including cooling functions. A dirty condenser may lead to warm temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer. It may also cause the unit to run excessively. It may contribute to condensation or frost inside of the compartments. If the condenser is not cleaned properly it may even cause premature failure of mechanical components in the unit.

STEP 2: Step 2

Condenser Cleaning - All Models Before cleaning the unit, shut the electricity off at the control panel. When you clean the condenser, wear gloves to avoid injury from the sharp condenser fins. Use a soft bristle brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the condenser. To avoid bending the condenser fins, be sure to vacuum in the direction of the fins, up and down. Clean the condenser every three to six months or sooner if you have pets. Sub Zero refrigerator 600 Series Framed and Stainless Steel louvered grilles: First remove the grille screws located at the bottom of the grille. NOTE: These screws (Phillips head) are accessed with the doors open. Tilt the top of the grille forward and release the springs from behind the grille, then lift off. Overlay Panel Grille: To remove, lift up then pull out at the bottom and down to release from its mounting bracket.
