How to Cook Wild Rabbit

Introduction: How to Cook Wild Rabbit

About: We love all things outdoors!

Not sure how to cook that rabbit that has been in the freezer for a few weeks now? Well, might be time how to cook the sucker up. It is quite simple. Cooking your rabbit in broth is perhaps one of the easiest and best ways to cook your rabbit.

You'll Need:

  • Your rabbit
  • A sharp kitchen knife
  • A cutting board
  • Your broth flavorings of choice
  • A boiling pan for the broth
  • A searing pan
  • Salt and Pepper (or other seasonings)

(The video above will give your detailed instructions of preparing your rabbit)

Step 1: Cutting Up Your Rabbit Into Portions

You will first need to make some cuts. I would take the meat off the bone as it is to mess up and loss meat. Cut off both shoulder blades from the main portion. There are no bones containing the part but just meat. It will be easy to remove.

Move down to the leg. There will be a ball-socket in place. Take your knife and cut through where the ball socket it and pop/cut it out. It is a lot easier than you think. Do that to both legs.

Remove the hip entirely by applying pressure using your knife to break through the bone. You can see that process in the video above.

Remove the belly flaps. It tastes very good, like rabbit bacon.

Take the remainder of the body and cut-n-toss the area where there is damage from a bullet. Then take the backstrap and cut them into two pieces by using your knife and applying pressure onto the bone.

Step 2: Making Your Broth

Everyone likes making their broth with different ingredients. Choice your resources and boil your broth mix. Once done, pour your broth into the searing pan and place onions or other veggies of choice in the broth.

Step 3: Cooking the Rabbit

Place your rabbit portions into the broth. The stove should be set to medium-high. Cook the rabbit for 5 minutes or so and then turn the pieces around and let that cook for another 3 to 5 minutes. Make sure it is cooked all the way through.

You now have your rabbit ready for eating.
