How to Create a No-Sew Blanket
Intro: How to Create a No-Sew Blanket
This blanket is perfect for a chilly day, what but blanket isn't!? Though this project may look intimidating to those that are not skilled in crafts, this blanket has only a few simple steps, and is created without ANY sewing! This is perfect craft for adults and children, but it is recommended than children under 14 use parental guidance. The material can be any size, but in order to have a large size blanket, two yards of material is preferred. When the weather outside gets cold and winter hits, be prepared by staying warm indoors with a blanket you designed to fit your unique mind and style.
STEP 1: Materials Needed
Materials needed:
1. Scissors (preferably fabric cutting scissors for more effective cutting)
2. Two fleece materials, same size, and with patterns of choice (we used 2 yards x 2 yards each)
3. One 5x7 inch index card
STEP 2: Laying Down the Fleece Materials
Place the blankets flat on top of each other. The two blankets must be the same sizes/dimensions!
STEP 3: Placing the Index Card
Place an index card on any corner of the blanket to start. Cut through the two materials along the long side of the index card.
STEP 4: Cutting the Corners
Now, on the side that you just cut, start cutting more strips parallel to the same strip. Make the incisions about an inch in width. After a few strips are cut, take the strip closest to the index card and cut that whole corner section off plus the closest one inch strip. (This is to ensure that when the blanket is finished, the corners will turn out as 90 degree angles and all of the ties around the blanket will be the same length).
This needs to be done to every corner, and so the blanket will look as though the four corners are cut off.
STEP 5: Cutting the Strips
Next, cut one inch strips along the edges of the blanket, keeping them all the same length as the cut corners lengths. The finished product of this should look like fringed edges all around the blanket.
STEP 6: Tying the Strips
Now, begin tying each strip between the two layers of the blanket. This can be done any way of your choice, because the uniqueness in tying the edges gives the blanket an original appearance. This blanket's fringes were crossed together, then intertwined as a shoelace would be tied. Another way is to tie the edges like a balloon, taking the two materials and wrapping them around two of your fingers, then looping it through. That style will produce a smoother tie that lies flat, whereas this blanket looks more frilled. When doing this procedure of tying, double knot it so they will not come loose.
STEP 7: Complete Blanket
After all of the ties are completed, admire your wonderful blanket! The finished product should have all the fringes cut and tied, and the angles should look even. It is okay if the corners bend in slightly from the knots being tied. The blanket is just curling up, and it will not affect the blanket negatively.

The Star Wars fabric is amazing! I got a no-sew blanket for Christmas the other year, and used this to help keep it tied. It helped, and now I know how to make my own!
