Introduction: How to Create a Paper Water Bomb

This tutorial will teach you how to create a paper water bomb (also goes by paper balloon, paper water balloon, etc). The above picture is the end result.

All the materials you need are:

  • A piece of rectangular paper or square paper
  • A pair of scissors (you don't need these if you have square paper)
  • A flat surface to work on

Step 1: Create Square Paper

Create a square piece of paper by folding a triangle on the top part of a rectangular piece of paper, then cutting off the bottom portion that is left sticking out. You can skip this step and step 2 if you already have square paper.

Step 2: Unfold the Paper

After cutting off the bottom portion, unfold the paper. It should be a perfect square.

Step 3: Make Horizontal and Vertical Creases Through the Middle of the Paper

Fold the paper in half along the middle vertically, then unfold. Now fold it again, but horizontally, then unfold. Make sure to crease the folds.

Step 4: Make Creases Diagonally Through the Middle

Now fold the paper in half diagonally, crease, then unfold. Do the same for the opposite diagonal. At this point, there should be 4 creases running through the middle of the paper horizontally, vertically, and along both diagonals.

Step 5: Fold the Paper in Half, Then Fold the Upper Corners Inward to Make a Triangle

Fold the paper in half along the middle once. Now fold the upper right and left corners inwards, making a triangle with two flaps inside.

Step 6: Fold the Corners Up Toward the Middle

Take the bottom right corner and fold it upward so that the tip of the corner touches the top of the triangle. Do the same for the bottom left corner. Crease both folds.

Step 7: Repeat Step 5 on the Other Side of the Paper

Flip the entire paper over, and fold the bottom right and left corners so that the tip of each corner touches the top of the triangle. Crease the folds. The triangle should now be a small square.

Step 8: Fold the Corners of the Square So the Tip Touches the Center

Take the right corner and fold it in toward the middle of the square, so that the tip of the corner touches the center of the square. Do the same for the left corner. Crease both folds.

Step 9: Repeat Step 7 on the Other Side of the Paper

Flip the entire paper over and fold the right and left corners of the square inward toward he center so that the tip of each corner touches the middle of the square. The paper should now look roughly like a hexagon with two flaps/tabs on each side.

Step 10: Fold the Top Corners of the Paper Inward

Now, take a look at the top corner of the hexagon and notice how the top corner has two flaps. Fold these flaps down toward the tabs you made in steps 7 and 8.

Step 11: Tuck the Flaps From the Previous Step Into the Tabs

Take the flaps you just folded and tuck them into the tabs you made earlier.

Step 12: Repeat for the Other Side, Then You Are Finished!

Turn the whole paper over, and tuck the flaps into the tabs on the other side. You are now finished with all of the folding. All you need to do now is locate the small hole on the bottom of the paper and blow into it. The paper should expand, turning into a cube with a hole at the top, which will allow you to fill the cube up with water. You have now completed your paper water bomb!
