Introduction: How to Crochet an Acorn Purse

I have always had a admiration for oak trees and for their acorns. So, when I found this little acorn on the floor I had to pick it up. Its hat naturally fall out and gave me the inspiration for this project. I hope you will enjoy following along my journey!

Supplies

Beige yarn (3 mm)

Brown yarn (3 mm)

A white button (or any colour of your choice)

Scissors

Crochet hook (3 mm)

Step 1: The Main Part of the Hat

Using the beige yarn, start with a slipknot and chain for 15. Then single crochet on this row.

At the last stitch, add two more single crochehet in order to turn to the other side (we will follow a eliptic path around the hat).

Single crochet for 15 throught that side.

In order to get to the other side, increase on the two chains on the side.

In order to get the bumpy texture of the hat, we will use bead stich. I have followed this tutorial to learn the bead stitch.

Notice that this stitch is applied to every other stitch. We will also follow this rule through the long side, however on the short sides, we will stitch into every chain in order to increase the circumference.

Repeat this for 6 rows.

Then make a line of single crochet. I had 62 stitches at this final line. It is alright if you don't hit this exact number.

Finish with a half stitch and leave some excess yarn for putting the parts together.

Step 2: The Stem of the Hat

Using the beige yarn, make a magic circle of 6 .

Increase in every stitch and have 12 stitches on your circle.

Without any increase, continue to have 12 stitches 6 rows in order to have a cylindric shape.

Finish with a half stitch and cut from afar and leave some excess yarn for putting the parts together.

Fill the stem with fiber. (optional)

Step 3: The Body

Using the brown yarn, make a magic ring of 6.

Increase this number by 3 in every line. In order to do so, you should increase in every other line for the first row (reaching 9 stitches), then increase in every third line for the next row (reaching 12 stitches), and so on.

Repeate this until you reach 72 stitches. (22 rows after the magic ring 6+22*3=72)

Then continue to have single stitches for 18 rows.

Finish with a half stitch.

Step 4: Putting Parts Together

Place the hat over the body and mark where you want it to be.

Pull the excess yarn to the inner side of the hat.

Sew one semicircular side of the hat to the body.

Place the stem over the head and mark where you want it to be.

Using the excess yarn from the stem sew the hat and the stem together.

Hide the ends of the yarns.

Step 5: Adding the Button

Using brown yarn sew the button at the midpoint of the open side of the body.
