    How do you stop the salt from leaking moisture and destroying the surface below it?

    Keeping your lamp on will also help keep it dry as the heat from the bulb warms the lamp causing moisture to evaporate.

    Yes, but you used LEDs which generate such a tiny amount of heat that it won't do that.
    Whats more likely is the water will pool up, firm salt water and react with the electrified copper to form chlorine gas.

    There is good atmosphere here so no much amount of heat is needed.
    Secondly, there is place under fireplace for waste material and if salt leaks moisture no issue the place under it will absorb it.
