That link is broken...
I use Allavsoft to download both videos and subtitles from YouTube
DownSub.com is the easiest way to download YouTube subtitles. WonderFox Free HD Video Converter can download YouTube videos easily.

I made a tool on my website that downloads YouTube closed caption
data from videos and exports them to common formats. No need to download
any software, free, no limits, no ads. There's even an API available
for the programmers.

It just pains me to see people installing bloated, ad-ridden, bundled software for no real reason.

This Tool is AWESOME !

YOU JUST ROCK !!!

Is there a way to extract the **automatically** generated closed captions for a video?

I found this working with Softorino YouTube Converter. The tool downloads videos to iPhone and also a computer, and also fetches the subtitles if you specify this in settings.
Look it up in Google :)

Not using my tool, sadly, and I apologise for not adding that feature. I did plan to add that feature but it adds a big layer of complexity to the whole thing and I got busy with other projects. It's basically a whole different tool required for automatically generated captions. I didn't think it would be so popular, so I may look into it at some point! I'll reply if I ever get around to doing it.

hi, i tried to go to your website and it seems like the website is down?

Thanks, you're awesome!

I tried it with CxE56Aqj7yE YT ID and did not work (no matter the extension I used for the file to generate).

Heya. I tested it with the video ID you gave me, it does work, though there are only Italian subtitles available for that one (note that you should submit a full video URL to the form, not just the ID; maybe I'll change that at some point). This tool only shows you what data YouTube provides, it won't provide the captions in English if there are none provided for example.

Odd... when I did it wouldn't work. Now it does. Well all is well that ends well ;) Thanks!

Strange! I haven't changed anything at all. Maybe information on YouTube's side changed (privacy settings, no captions available, etc.). That's all I can think of. Glad it works now.

Thank you a lot!! it is awesome !!

Thank you! :D

You should make your own instructable here. I needed that to translate captions to my language but was worried about that 4K software as it looks like it contains malware/adware.

Eh.. I use 4K Video Downloader for a long time, for subtitles downloading in particular and can say for sure it has no malware/adware. Install a good antivirus program and check for yourself. There is also a proof on VirusTotal, the last version that was uploaded to the site (4.1) is checked there by quite a number of popular (and not so much) antiviruses:

The info is relevant - the last time the program was checked 10 hours ago (!).

Thanx!!! you've done a really nice job. Very usefull for geting videos into classroom where video's native language is not the classroom's one.

Awesome.... A big thank you!!! it is very easy...
