Introduction: How to Draw a Perfect Circle

Don't have a compass or anything of the right shape to trace or to draw a circle? No problem! In this tutorial, you will be shown how to draw a perfect circle of any size with the use of a few easily accessible materials.

Supplies

  • Paper
  • String (length depending on size of circle)
  • 2 pens or pencils
  • Heavy object (optional)

Step 1: Gathering and Preparing Materials

First, make sure you have all of the materials needed. Once you have them, make sure you know the diameter of the circle you want to draw. Then, cut the string a few inches longer than this length. In this example, the circle will be 2 inches in diameter, so the string will be cut to around 4.5 inches.

Step 2: Setting It Up

Now, take your string of desired length, fold it in half, and tie it. Once you have done this, hold the tip of one pen/pencil on your piece of paper. This will mark the center of your circle. Lastly, place your string around this pencil and hold the tip of the other pen/pencil on the paper at the other end of the string.

Step 3: Draw Your Circle

Now, you are ready to draw your perfect circle! While you hold the pen/pencil marking the center of the circle in place, pull the other pen/pencil as far out as the string allows, drag it around the center, and it will be guided in the shape of a perfect circle. If you are having trouble keeping your paper in place while drawing your circle, you may need something heavy like a book to hold it down.
