Introduction: How to Dye EOS Chapstick
My name is Summer Mitchell, I am a senior in high school and I am going to teach you how to dye your EOS lip balm with simply just one crayon. This craft can be perfect for gifts, it gives the perfect amount of smoothness and a tint of color. When doing this craft, be as creative, unique and colorful as you would like.
- EOS Lip balm (either brand new or gently used)
- A steak knife (do NOT use a butter knife)
- A crayon (choose the color you want your lip balm to be. Suggested colors: Reds, Pink, Nude, Purple)
- Sauce pan (if you do not have a sauce pan, use any pan you can find that can sustain heat)
- A stove or microwave
- Either a fridge or freezer
- Some sort of mixing tool (heat safe)
"The Pizza": When doing this craft, Step 2 requires removing a small plastic piece in which looks like a pizza. In this tutorial, the small plastic piece will be referred as "the pizza." (you know what I am talking about when you see it).
Container: The container is being referred as the actual EOS Lip balm case/container (as some people might call it the egg chap stick)
Step 1: Step 1: Cleaning and Preparing Your EOS Lip Balm
After opening your lip balm, using your knife, slice off the entire top of the lip balm and set it aside in a separate bowl for later in the tutorial. Making sure that all of the chap stick is out before moving onto step two will make step two a lot easier than it sounds. To make sure that the container is completely cleared of the chap stick, use the knife to help get under the pizza plastic piece and if needed, use soap and water to help clean out the container (although using soap and water is no recommended). When using soap and water, do be careful that no chap stick is being wasted and thrown away. If soap and water was used, make sure that the container is completely dry and has no water or soap residue.
Step 2: Step 2: Taking Out "The Pizza"
With the knife, remove "the pizza" placed at the bottom of the container by applying pressure between the container and "the pizza" (this process is the hardest portion of the tutorial and requires some amount of muscular strength). After "the pizza" is out, you should have a total of three pieces of the EOS chap stick container.
Step 3: Step 3: Melting
Using either the stove top or microwave simply, melt the crayon and the Chapstick together in order to produce a new color of Chapstick that soon will become lip balm. When using the microwave, microwave the crayon and Chapstick mixture for about 1 minute using a microwave safe bowl or cup.
Step 4: Step 4: Putting "the Pizza" Back
In order to put the pizza back in and get the desired result of the Chapstick result, put the pizza plastic piece into the top of the EOS container. When you took it out it was in the bottom container but trust me and just put it in the top one. Simply just push it back in with just a little bit of pressure.
Step 5: Step 5: Pouring Mixture Back
With the melted newly colored Chap stick, simply pour the liquid through the pizza. The mixture should go over the top of the pizza. After pouring, you should not see the pizza and to do that, it's very important you get all the mixture in the container. If you do not have all of it in, the end result will not be the same.
Step 6: Step 6: Freeze and Enjoy!
After the mixture is completely in the top lid of the container, snap on the other side and freeze for a minimum of 20 minutes. And your end result should be a fully tinted DIY EOS lip balm. Enjoy! :)

Thanks for sharing. When my daughter is a little older, I fully intend to teach her how to make a lot of her own stuff like this. Have you ever tried adding scents or flavors?

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And yes I have tried to add scents but not so much flavors. Essential oils work really well if your looking for any type of scent. When using the oils, don't add more than 1 teaspoon just to ensure that the chap-stick doesn't become too soft.
