Introduction: How to Fix Your Rode NTH-100 FitLok

The RØDE NTH-100 are professional over-ear headphones known for their exceptional sonic performance and superior comfort, making them ideal for various content creation activities. The headphones also have a fully adjustable headband with a FitLok™ locking system, contoured earcups for acoustic performance and noise isolation, and a removable cable that can connect to either earcup. They are designed with high-grade components in Sydney, Australia, and come with a lifetime warranty.


BUT, the FitLok breaks very easily and is a common complaint from owners. I knew this was a problem when I bought them and thought, "shouldn't happen to me, I'm super gentle with my equipment". But they still broke!! Proving the design is not that great.

If your NTH-100 brake too, then these instruction will help you fix yours.

Supplies

You will need a 2mm allen wrench and the replacement housings.

Step 1: Remove the Screw

Using the 2mm allen wrench, remove the screw on the FitLok. The lock plate will come off indicating that you did this successfully.

If the screw is stuck, push it out from the opposite side using the allen key.

Step 2: Remove the Headphone

The headphone should be free now, pull it out of the housing. If your housing is cracked, then removing the headphone cable can be freed. If yours is not cracked all the way through then you will have to crack it to free the headphone cable.

Step 3: Slide Off the Housing

The housing should be free. Carefully slide it off the headset and try not to let the internal plastic part of the housing fall on the floor.

Just in case you did drop it, there is a gold washer in between two plastic pieces. The plastic pieces have smooth sides that smoosh up against the gold washer on both sides.

Step 4: Transfer Parts

Transfer the parts internal of the old housing into the new housing. The part should have the smooth edge exposed as in the photo. The hole through the housing should be aligned.

Step 5: Slide Housing Back On

Slide the new housing with internal parts back onto the headset. The open side of the housing should be facing down or towards the headphones if they were attached.

Step 6: Attach the Headphones

Slide the headphones into the housing then insert the screw into the hole on the inside of the headset.

Once the screw is inserted, attach the lock plate on the opposite side and begin tightening the screw.

Finally, adjust the tension of the screw so that the Fitlok plate 'locks' the headphone from sliding.

Step 7: Mount the Headphone Cable

Slide the headphone cable under the fingers of the housing. The plastic 'bump' should fit in-between the fingers. As shown in the photo.

Step 8: Repeat on Left Side
