Introduction: How to Fix a Broken Pot Lid Handle.
A few months ago I was cleaning the kitchen and I may have dropped the lid to one of my pots.
Being the Mr. FIXIT that I am, I saved it.
A few months later, I saw that Aves Studios was marketing a new product called FIXIT! ... COULD THIS BE MORE PERFECT?!?!?!?!?
Step 1: SUPPLY LIST TIME!
- FIXIT from Aves Studios (https://www.avesstudio.com/shop/fixit-sculpt/)
-Rotary tool
-Sanding drum
-Grinding bit
-Wax of some sort (Almost anything will do the trick)
- 8-32 screw and wing nut
-Screw driver
-Cup of water
-Rubber gloves
-Respirator
-Broken pot handle and lid
Step 2: Find Your Handle and Cry a Little.... Remember the Good Times You Shared.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way... lets fix it!
Step 3: Grind It a Bit...
With a sanding drum on a rotary tool, I sanded off all the broken bits from the handle.
WEAR A RESPIRATOR!!!
Step 4: Add Some Potholes Man...
With a carbide bit on my rotary tool, I ground in some divots for the tips of the wing nut to rest in.
This would help assure the nut wouldn't spin as i tightened the screw later...
WEAR A RESPIRATOR!!! SERIOUSLY!
Step 5: Wax It Up!
I used some old car wax I had laying around and put some onto the shank of the screw before I threaded it into the wingnut.
Step 6: Put the Thing Where You Want the Thing...
I put the screw and wing nut together and threaded it into the hole on the handle (already molded in from the factory... SCORE!). This really helped keep the nut perpendicular to the handle. VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Step 7: Mix It Up!!!!
Using a 50/50 mixture, mix part A and B with your fingers until you have a homogenous black color without streaks in it.
WEAR YOUR RUBBER GLOVES!!!!
Step 8: Stick That Stuff in There!
I took little bits of the mixture and pushed it into all the little cracks and open places (making sure to leave no air pockets) until the entire wing nut was covered.
I then dipped my fingers into some water and smoothed out the mixture.
Step 9: Step 8: Put It All Together!!!!
WAIT!!! Like.... 3 hours or so (depending on how warm it is in your area). Okay, maybe leave it overnight, I didn’t. BUT THAT’S OKAY!
because I waxed the screw before I put the FIX-IT mixture all over the place, it just unscrewed easily with a screwdriver.
Then, just... like... screw it on.
DONE :)))
