Introduction: How to Fly a Drone

Hi, my name is Wilson. I’ve been flying our farm’s drone since 2017. Drones have been getting more and more useful each year. I’m going to show you 5 steps how to fly a drone. Did you know drones are easier to fly then you think.

Step 1: Controls

First off it is important to know what the controls do on the controller. There is on my drone two joy sticks to control up, down, naw left or naw right, roll left or roll right, pitch forwards or pitch backwards. The left joystick going forwards or backwards controls the throttle to ascend or descend. Then moving the joystick left or right is the naw to spin/rotate the drone. Next, the right joystick forwards or backwards is forwards and backwards (pitch). Then to control the camera tilt up or down is a scroll on the front right of the controller. Also, to take a picture is a button on the front right. To take a video the button is front left. On the App Drone Deploy shows, live camera feed, height, speed, Battery %, setting, and etc.

Step 2: Equipment/Preflight Check-list

Next, equipment needed and pre-flight check-list. Device to see information and camera live feed. Then the cord to connect to controller, batteries for the drone, and SD card to save pictures or videos taken while in flight. Things to look for pre-flight. The weather can alter flying. Wind speed will affect performance. Rule of thumb, its good flying if the wind speed is under 10 mph. Do not fly in any precipitation. Stay away from restricted areas such as airports. Also, make sure everything is charged. When picking a spot to take off from make sure to stay away from trees, buildings, poles, powerlines, anything that may run into while taking off. A wide-open space on level ground is a great place to take off from. Put in battery, SD card, and power up the drone. Next plug-in device to controller and turn the controller on. Make sure the device is on the Drone Deploy app and the app is ready for takeoff.

Step 3: Take Off!

Now the drone is ready to take off. With both joysticks push down and together. The propellers will begin to spin. Let the right joystick back in the rest position and push the left joystick to ascend. A good rule of thumb is to ascend to 100 ft which is above trees and most other objects.

Step 4: In Flight

While in fight enjoy the view while taking cool pictures and videos. Basic rules to follow while in flight by the FAA. Stay under 400 ft in the air. The drone always needs to be in the line of sight. Also, need to have a friend to have eyes on the drone while in fight. Do not disturbed wildlife.

Step 5: Landing

When wanting to land hover over desire location to land. (Preferably where the drone took off from.) Pull down left joystick until the drone has landed and the props shut off. Now you know how to fly a drone.
