How to Get Homebrew on Your Wii

Introduction: How to Get Homebrew on Your Wii

In this instructable, I will teach you how to get the Homebrew channel on your Wii. The Homebrew channel is a way for Wii users to play unofficial games. Examples would be Newer Super Mario Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Project M. These games were made by various people. Newer Super Mario Bros. is the same as its original, except with totally brand new levels. Project M is also the same as original except for new characters and many, many more stages. Here, I will teach you how to download this software. For this instructable, you will only need your Wii and an SD card or USB drive.

Step 1: MAC Address

Now don't worry, for this you will not need a Mac computer or anything, only your Wii and an SD card or USB drive. First go to System Settings which is on the Wii home menu. Go to the bottom left corner and press Wii. Then go to Internet > Console Information. There you will see your MAC address, which you will need soon. So remember that stuff and on to the next step.

Step 2: Computer Stuff

Next, go to http://please.hackmii.com. You should see the words, System Menu Version and under that: 4.3U, 4.3E, 4.3J, and 4.3K, where the letters stand for locations. If your computer knows your location it should automatically be selected on that, but if not then the U = United States, E = Europe, J = Japan, and K = Korea. Select your nation and then input your MAC address in the boxes. Make sure the box with the bundle the HackMii installer is checked to get the Homebrew Channel. After entering the captcha, press the button at the bottom and a ZIP file will start downloading. Put the private folder and the boot.elf into your SD card or USB.

Step 3: Final Touches

Take your SD card or USB and out it into your Wii. Next, go to the Wii Message Board. You can find it by clicking on the button at the bottom right corner of the Wii home menu. Look for a red letter with a bomb inside it. (Don't worry, nothing going to explode or break). If you can't see it, just change the date to the one before or the one after. Go through the whole installer until it gives you the option to download the Homebrew Channel. Allow it to install and you should see it in your home menu. Now you have the home-brew channel.

Step 4: How to Get Homebrew Applications

To download applications, go to http://wiibrew.org. Find any application you want, download it, extract it, and copy it into an apps folder in your SD or USB. If you don't have an apps folder, create one.

Step 5: Conclusion

So, now you can get stuff which is much better than original, in my opinion. So remember to like and subscribe and all that stuff. If you have any questions or comments, just leave them below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

This DOES NOT work with a USB drive, the bomb won't appear in my Wiimail.

It wasn't under a different date, I scrolled through several nor did switching USB slots or resetting the system work.

When I get the chance, I'll try it with an SD card. Currently, I do not own one.

I added the Homebrew channel, bought the Super Smash Brothers WII game, went to the stage builder, removed the three custom stages, added an .elf file and changed folder to folderold to the root SD. Insert SD card into WII went back to stage builder. .elf file did not load.
