Step 2: Step 1
Adhere the glitter, then cover with a sealant spray. This is done as follows:
Apply an adhesive such as Mod Podge, a glue adhesive spray or a spray lacquer.
Sprinkle the glued section of the glass object with the glitter. Then allow to dry overnight.
Once dry, spray a high gloss clear sealant over the glittered area. To prevent the sealant from going on any other area of the glass, cover with food plastic wrap or a plastic bag and tape.
Done. This method means that the item is only hand washable; even then, it may not prove ideal for washing––test a small area first. Some people have reported success washing several layers of sealed glitter on glassware.[1]

Step 3: Step 2
Use Mod Podge and nothing more. This method is not washable.
Brush Mod Podge onto the glass surface.
Sprinkle on glitter. Let dry.
Add another layer of Mod Podge to seal.
As long as the glass item isn't going in the wash, this method may work for a fair time.

Step 4: Step 3
Use an all-purpose primer. This method is not washable.
Tape off any areas where you don't want glitter.
Paint the area to be glittered with the primer.
Sprinkle with glitter.
Allow to dry. Remove the taped off area and the item is done.

Step 5: Step 4
Use etching cream. An etched glass surface is rougher than normal, which can help the glitter to adhere.
Tape off all areas of the glass where you don't want the glitter design to go.
Apply the etching cream according to the manufacturer's instructions, including waiting time.
Rinse off and allow to dry.
Once dried, paint the etched area with Mod Podge or a glue adhesive spray and sprinkle with glitter. The transformed surface of the glass should be more receptive to the glitter.

Step 6: Step 5
Use suitable glitter paint. There are various commercially produced glitter paints that are made specifically for applying to glass. These paints will not peel off and should also prove dishwasher proof––just check the label. Read the manufacturer's instructions for application.
