Introduction: How to Graph a Linear Equation on a Graphing Calculator

Graphing is pretty fun when you get the hang of it. To start our journey through the graphing calculator, let's start by graphing simple linear equations! For example, let's graph y=4x+3! I use a TI-84 Plus CE calculator for this, but most graphing calculators are pretty much the same or similar.

Step 1: Y=

Hit the button in the top-left corner that says "y=", like shown in the demonstration picture.

Step 2: Enter Equation

1) In our example, y=4x+3, the first digit is 4. Hit 4.

2) To display x, hit the button that has "x,T,∅,n" on it, as shown in the demonstration picture.

3) Enter the rest of the equation, which is +3 (in our example).

Step 3: Graph

Hit the button in the top-right corner that says "graph".

Step 4: Done!

We are done graphing our linear equation!!!

Step 5: Exit

If you want to exit out of the graph, hit 2nd and then mode or the "clear" button (shown in the demonstration picture).

Repeat steps 1-4 if you want to continue to graph more linear equations!
