Introduction: How to Hand Sew an Invisible Stitch

The invisible stitch can be used to sew up holes on pillows, pillowcases or covers, stuffed animals, among many other things. When complete, the stich is nearly invisible and leaves the item looking like new again!

Supplies

Needle and thread

Step 1:

Thread the needle and tie and double knot at the end.

Tip

  • Choose a thread that will not stand out from the fabric you are sewing.
  • For items that will get more wear and tear choose a double thread. If not a single thread will do just fine

Step 2:

Cut away and lose threading that may be at the opening of the hole.

Step 3:

Bring the needle into the hole and out through the fabric on the side closest to you. This way the knot will be neat and invisible.

Step 4:

Go to the opposite side and make a stitch parallel to the seam so that it picks up a little bit of fabric.

Step 5:

Do the same thing on the opposite side making sure to make the new stitch directly opposite of the current stitch.

Step 6:

Repeat steps 4 and 5 a few times.

Step 7:

Pull the needle so that the thread pulls the seam together. The stiches should disappear.

Step 8:

Continue to repeat steps 4 and 5 pulling the thread tight every few stitches until you are at the end of the hole.

Step 9:

Bring the needle through the fabric once more bringing the needle through the thread to make a knot.

Step 10:

Make another knot through the knot you just made.

Step 11:

Pull the needle through the knot, then through the side of the item, and cut the thread.
