Introduction: How to K2tog and P2tog (knit 2 Together, Purl 2 Together)
Have you ever seen K2TOG or P2TOG on a pattern and wondered what it meant…or how to even do it?? They are simply decreasing stitches.
K2TOG means to knit 2 stitches together at the same time. So, instead of knitting 1 stitch like you normally would, you knit 2…that’s it!
P2TOG means to purl 2 stitches together at the same time. Same as a normal purl…only you purl 2.
Let’s get started! So, grab your knitting and follow along with the steps below and we’ll have you knitting like a pro!
Step 1: First We'll Start With the K2TOG Stitch. Start Slipping Your Right Needle Into the First Two Stitches on the Left Needle
Step 2: Next, Wrap Your Working Yarn Around Your Left Needle As If to Knit
Step 3: Bring Your Right Needle Under Both Stitches
Step 4: And That's It! You've Completed a K2TOG!
Step 5: Now Onto the P2TOG!
Step 6: Insert Your Right Needle Into the First Two Stitches on the Left Needle As If to Purl
Step 7: Wrap Your Working Round Around the Inserted Right Needle
Step 8: Bring Right Needle Under Both Stitches
Step 9: Another One Down! You Now Know How to K2TOG and P2TOG :D
I hope you loved learning these two new stitches, so you can go forth and conquer more patterns!! If you didn’t quite master it the first time, don’t give up & practice it a couple more times…remember I couldn’t even knit a washcloth when I first learned to knit.
Happy Knitting!
