This tutorial is going to show you how to make this really simple buttercream recipe. Feel free to watch the tutorial as well!
Step 1: Beat Butter
First you're going to beat room temperature salted butter for a good 2 minutes or more until it is a light color.
Step 2: Add Powdered Sugar
Next you're going to continue to mix the butter and also add powdered sugar in portions at a time. Tip: for every stick of butter you use, you're going to add 1 and 3/4 cups of powdered sugar.
Step 3: Beat Mixture
the last thing that you will do is beat this mixture for a good 5 - 6 minutes. This step is necessary for light airy buttercream, it also helps it to double in size. After this step is done you should have light and airy buttercream!

Great tutorial! The way you have written it, and the equipment you utilized made it even easier. In the long ago I would make icing putting in milk, butter, vanilla, and icing sugar. Then with a spoon I would mix, and mix, and mix....By the time the cake was cooled and ready for the decorations, the icing would be sufficiently stirred. :) Oh, and my cake did not first start in a box....Gee, am I really this old? Yes, inideed!

I like homemade buttercream so much better than that stuff that comes in a can. You can add a bit of extract (vanilla, lemon, peppermint, etc) if you want a little different flavor. If it is too sweet, sometimes I add the tiniest bit (just a few grains) of salt. You have to beat it really well after adding salt.
