How to Make Chipbag Keychains
Intro: How to Make Chipbag Keychains
This is a very simple do it yourself project and kids will think it's cool also. This is intended for an audience of tweens, whether it be for a unique key chain of some of your favorite snacks or a quick science project, which is where I first heard of this as a child.
With very little prep work and time you can do this in 10 minutes. So the next time you are eating a bag of crunchy deliciousness don't just throw the bag in the trash, instead shrink it and make people wonder how you did it
STEP 1: Things Needed
- Bags of chips (empty)
- Oven Safe Pan and mitts
- Hole Puncher
- Keyring
STEP 2: Baking and Shrinking
Preheat oven to 325 and place chip bags on the pan, and place in oven.
Let bake/shrink for 4 minutes, or until desired size, being sure to keep checking it
STEP 3: Straightening Out
Take pan out of oven ( Caution: Pan and chip bags will be hot, please be careful! )
Let chip bags cool for a minute. Don't let bags cool completely because you need the bags to be warm for shaping purposes. Once straightened out as much as possible, continue to let cool.
STEP 4: Punch a Hole
Using the hole puncher, punch a hole in the corner of the chip bag
STEP 5: Conclusion
Once the chip bags have cooled, you can then put them on your key ring and enjoy your DIY custom made keychains of some of your favorite snacks!

I used to do this with my kids all the time. Use salt to weigh down the bags, I bought a 5 pound box and used it just for this purpose. Cover the bags completely with the salt before placing them in the oven, You can watch the bags shrink under the salt. Brush the salt off and save for another batch.

I think a heat gun or hair dryer may work even better for this. It would only take a second.

I would assume that it would be hard. But I don't know how hard. It looks so cool!
