Introduction: How to Make Dragonfly Stitch in Crochet
Today we are going to teach you how to crochet dragonfly stitch. A cute, fancy texture that’s very easy to create.
You'll need Pima cotton yarn from We Are Knitters and a crochet hook
Let’s see how it’s made!
Start with a chain of 12 plus 3 extra.
Step 1: Row 1
Make 1 double crochet in the 4th chain and double crochet in each chain until the end of the row.
Step 2: Row 2
Chain 3 and double crochet 5. Make 1 chain in the air, skip 1 stitch and then double crochet the other six stitches.
Step 3: Row 3
Chain 3 and double crochet 2 stitches. Chain 3 in the air, skip 3 stitches and single crochet 1 in the space of the chain of the row below. Chain 3 in the air, skip 3 stitches and double crochet 3 stitches.
Step 4: Row 4
Chain 3 and make 1 double crochet. Chain 4 stitches in the air, skip 1 stitch and the chains and single crochet 1 above the single crochet of the row below. Chain 4 stitches in the air, skip over the chains and 1 stitch. Double crochet 2 stitches.
Step 5: Row 5
Chain 3 and make 1 double crochet and 4 double crochet in the space formed by the chains of the row below. Triple crochet 1 above the single crochet of the row below, 4 double crochet in the space formed by the chains of the row below and 2 double crochet.
Step 6: Row 6 and Finish!
Make 1 double crochet in each stitch.
Repeat rows 2 to 6 until you reach the desired length.
And so this is how we make this fancy lace texture that is ideal for making blankets, scarves, or garments.
We made it with the Pima cotton, but you can use any of our materials.
As always, we ask you to share with us your creations on Instagram, using the hashtag #weareknitters. We’d love to see what you can think of to do with the dragonfly stitch.

Newbie here. What does ch 12+3 extra mean? Like, is it just the turning ch added in the beginning with the rest of the sts or is it something else?
