Introduction: How to Make Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread

Baking is one of my favorite things to do and I've recently become interested in veganism, so when I saw that Instructables was having both a Baking Contest and Vegan Challenge, I knew that I had to enter something. I decided to go with this Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread because it is easy to make and one of my favorite treats.

Step 1: Ingredients and Materials

The ingredients that you will need to make this are:

1 1/4 cups flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil

2 ripe bananas*

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

3/8 cup water

*The bananas that I am using were frozen. Once bananas get a lot of brown spots on them, I put them in the freezer to save for making banana bread. You don't have to use frozen bananas for this, but if you do, make sure that you allow them to thaw before making the banana bread.

The materials that you should have are:

a loaf pan

cooking spray

two bowls

measuring cups and spoons

a fork

a whisk

Step 2: Preparation

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.

Step 3: Dry Ingredients

Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to a large mixing bowl. Whisk to combine. Set aside.

Step 4: Wet Ingredients

Peel the bananas and place them in a medium mixing bowl. Use a fork to mash them until they are smooth. Add in the oil, vanilla extract, apple cider vinegar, and water. Whisk to combine.

Step 5: Combine the Wet and Dry Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix together until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 6: Baking

Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan. Place in the oven to bake for 45 minutes. You will know that the banana bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes before eating.
