Introduction: How to Make Working Wind Turbine Model With Recycled Materials and DC DVD Motor Harvested From Old DVD Burner.

About: I'm a Maker passionate about tools

Have you ever noticed those tall, spinning structures with huge blades while driving through the countryside or near the coast? Those are wind turbines, and they play a crucial role in generating electricity from the power of the wind.

Wind turbines work like a giant fan in reverse. Instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan does, wind turbines use the wind to make electricity. When the wind blows, it causes the blades on the turbine to spin. This spinning motion turns a generator inside the turbine, which then converts the kinetic energy of the spinning blades into electrical energy. This electricity can then be sent through power lines to homes, schools, and businesses to power lights, computers, and other devices.

Wind turbines are amazing machines that harness the power of the wind to generate electricity, providing us with a clean, renewable source of energy.

I prepared a wind turbine model for you made from recycled parts for your school science project.

Supplies

• DC Motor harvested from old DVD burner

• 5mm Rounded White LED

• 1mm Wire harvested old electronics

• Cardboard or Foamcore

• Fax Paper center roller plastic or paper

• Printed Brick Pattern and Roof Tile Pattern for coating

• Plastic propeller from old Electric Hand Fan

• EVA Foam for decoration

Step 1: Principle Schematics Test

When electrical energy is applied, a DC motor turns the applied electrical energy into mechanical energy. When you reverse this process, mechanical energy turns into electrical energy.

Solder an LED between the DVD Burner motor pins. The long pin of the LED is (+) positive polarization, and the short pin is (-) negative polarization.

Apply a propeller on motor shaft and blow air with an hair dryer.

Eureka !

Step 3: Creating Diaroma

You may watch the video and create a diaroma with cardboard and decoration print.

Step 4: Soldering Motor

Use fax paper center roller like a wind turbine tower pole. Glue motor on pole and solder wires.

Attach propeller on motor shaft (Generator Shaft) and mount on diorama base.

Step 5: Switchbox Wiring

Create a switch box for the system

Step 6: Ceiling Lamp Wiring

Step 7: Test

Blow air to propeller and see the light inside the house. Have fun.
