Introduction: How to Make Your Own Moon Gel for Your Drums :)

About: I take things apart, building new things with those parts, come up with my own way of building things, and I invent new simple things, such as simple robots, or just toys. I also love playing my drum set!

In this instructable I will teach you how to make your own moon gel for your drums for only $1!!!! Rather than some outrageously, over priced number :( The reason I made these were because I made the mistake of purchasing real ones, that my little sister just ripped up and chewed on. So I decided to make my own :)

Step 1: Supplies

All you need to make these are window gel stickers, which you can find at the dollar store, scissors, and a ruler.

Step 2: Measuring & Cutting

Now you need cut out four rectangles from the window gel stickers that are, 1.25" x 0.75". If you still don't like the sound of your drums you can make them a little bigger.

Step 3: Done!!!

It was  that simple!!! Now you have moon gel that you made, plus it was only $1, rather than some expensive price.

Excellent instructible, mate! I'm a frugal drummer, therefore I will definitely try this.
And if all else fails, I'll pick my nose and make my own "moon gels" with my boogers! lol

i bought a pack for $3.95, free shipping, if you buy this kinda stuff from music stores, be prepared to get ripped off. I find it a nuisance item to buy, since i have over $3,500 in cymbals, this is cheap to me.....

It's quite saddening how much they rip us poor drummers off at music stores! I contacted a store and they quoted me $12 for Moongel. I went to the arts and crafts store and got some window gel for $3, it's even the same blue colour! I basically only payed 1/4 for something the music shop was asking for and it works like a charm!

    Thanks for the tut!

It is funny how much value they put on a particular application of a material. "Of course you could use mashed potatoes on your drums, but this is SPACE AGE technology"

The gel is worth more on your drum then on your kid sister's window. -- But seriously, good tip. I didn't know those were available at the $ store.

    its 'rather *than*' ;)
great idea :) seems music accessory suppliers think musicians are rich and whack a heavy price on everything, and then retailers double it. <_<
This is a must for the frugal drummer :) along with home made pics for guitarists from old plastic cards or whatever types of plastic u can find :)
