Here’s a quick guide on making quilted postcards:
Step 1: Collect the Needed Materials.
Before you could start, be sure to have all the materials you’ll need. You’ll need: fabric or a durable type of paper for the back portion, scraps of cloth for the front part, embellishments, glue, cutter, and a sewing kit.
Step 2: Cut All the Fabric and Paper Down to 4 X 6 Inches.
It is important that your quilted postcard’s size is 4” x 6”. The post office sees this as the ideal postcard mailing size. Going bigger might cost you more. Cut all your fabric, and paper to fit the required size. You can use a template or just measure the materials to do this.
Step 3: Start Stitching.
When you are done cutting your fabric and paper, you can already start stitching the front and back. Use a sewing machine to make creative styles of embroidery. Some stitching patterns that you can try are satin stitched, binding, and the pillow slip method. There are easier and faster stitches you could try like the satin stitch.
Step 4: Decorate With Colorful Embellishments.
The front can look more attractive if you add colorful decorations like beads, yarns, or buttons. Use an adhesive glue to stick them on and let them dry.
Step 5: Write Your Personal Message on the Back.
Once dry, your postcard will almost be ready for mailing. All that’s left to do is to write a message on the back. Since the space won’t be that big, keep your greetings short.
