Introduction: How to Make a Bowl Out of a Doily

About: In a valiant attempt to keep myself from dying of boredom, I create.

I love containers; boxes, jars, bowls, cans, bags, etc.  If it is designed to hold something, I love it!  The perfect gift isn’t what is in the container, as much as it is the container itself.  I recently made a pile of small doilies.  Only trouble was what to do with them.  Then someone showed me a picture of a bowl that had been made from a doily.  Brilliant!  I have since been turning all my small doilies into small bowls.  And this is how I did it.

Step 1:

Supplies:
1doily (make one, or buy one at the dollar store, or look for one on line, etc.)
White glue (any kind will do)
A bowl (about the size of the doily,)
Plastic wrap
Extra bowl

Step 2:

Cover the outside of the bowl with a couple of layers of plastic wrap.  Fold the edges inside the bowl and set it bottom side up on a counter.  Put about ¼ cup white glue into a bowl.

Step 3:

Put the doily into the glue and saturate the cotton with the glue.  Use your hands, to help this happen.

Step 4:

Pull the doily from the glue and lay it out on top of the bottom of the bowl.

Step 5:

Rinse your hands of glue, and stretch the sides of the doily down the sides of the bowl.  You can make the edges of the doily ruffled or smooth or whatever you want.

Step 6:

Let dry for 24+ hours.

Once the doily is dry it will be stiff.  You knew that white glue died clear, right?  I'm glad that you already knew that little bit of info.

Step 7:

Pry the doily bowl away from the bowl beneath.  .

Step 8:

Pull the plastic away and you doily bowl is complete.

Step 9:

I think some of these, will be used this this year as Christmas gifts for my friends.

Step 10:

I'll  just put some chocolate in it... wrap it in cellophane...

Step 11:

add some ribbon... Yeah, that will work.   Enjoy!
