How to Make a Easy Leather Coin Pouch in 6 Steps (no Sewing Required)

This is an easy way to make a leather bag for beginning leatherworkers

Step 1: Step 1 Cutting Out the Base of the Bag

Cut a large circle out of the scrap piece of leather; the bigger the circle, the bigger the bag will be.

Step 2: Step 2 Beginning Cutting Holes

Begin cutting holes about 1 1/2in apart around the edge of the circle. This is most easily done by folding the leather in half right where you plan on making the hole, then cutting just a little bit into the leather, no more than 1/4in.

Step 3: Step 3 More Holes

Continue cutting holes around the edge of the circle, keeping them about 1 1/2in apart. Keep cutting the holes around the circle until you have reached the first hole you made.

Step 4: Step 4 Drawstring

Begin threading the string through the holes by going up through the first hole, and down through the next one. As you thread the bag, it will begin to form into a bowl shape. This is supposed to happen, so do not worry.

Step 5: Step 5 Finishing the Drawstring

Continue threading the string through the holes until you have gone all the way around the circle, then put the end of the string through the first hole.

Step 6: Step 6 Finishing the Bag

Pull the string tight so that it forms into a bag shape. Make sure that the already cut end of the string sticks out about 4 inches from the bag, then cut the other end of the string to the same length. Next tie both ends of the leather string in a basic overhand knot, as is shown in the last three pictures. Make both ends of the string in a little loop, (picture 1), then loop those ends under the other side of the loop, (picture 2), and pull it tight, (picture 3). Then you are finished with your bag.
