Introduction: How to Make a Hemp Bracelet
Final Project for Technical Writing I
December 2010
According to dictionary.comhemp, also called Indian hemp, marijuana, is a tall course plant that is native to Asia but naturalized or cultivated in many parts of the world and is the source of a valuable fiber. The tough fiber of this plant is used for making rope.
Measuring Scale:
1 foot = 1 forearm
*the length from your hand to your elbow
Materials:
hemp string - approx. 14 feet
1 pea-sized bead - wooden, glass, stone, etc.
*make sure you can fit four strands of hemp through the bead's hole
Equipment:
1 pair of jeans
1 safety pin
2 hands
1 pair of scissors
1 forearm
Step 1: Put on a Pair of Jeans.
Step 2: Measure and Cut Two Strands of Hemp String:
1. Take an end of string in your hand.
2. Wrap the string around the length of your forearm 3 ½ times.
*approx. 7 feet of string
3. Cut the string at your elbow.
4. Repeat for a second strand.
Caution: Scissors are sharp!
Step 3: Make a Loop:
1.Take both strings and fold them end to end.
2.Take all four ends of hemp and hold them in one hand.
3.Take the looped end of hemp in the other hand.
Step 4: Knot the Looped End:
Make the loop approximately the size of your pinky tip.
1. Wrap the strands around your index finger once.
2. Cross the strings.
3. Push the loop through the hole made by your index finger.
4. Remove your index finger.
5. Tighten the knot.
Step 5: Pin the Loop to Your Jeans:
Pin the loop to your jeans near your knee cap.
Caution: Safety pin is sharp!
Step 6: Separate Two Strands of Hemp:
1.Take one strand of hemp in your right hand.
Call it strand one.
2.Take another strand of hemp in your left hand.
Call it strand two.
3.Leave two strands in the middle.
Ignore them until step fourteen.
Step 7: Make a Half-circle on the Left Side of the Middle Strands:
1. Move strand two across the middle strands and across strand one.
2. Place strand one over strand two.
Step 8: Make a Half-circle on the Right Side of the Middle Strands:
1. Move strand one under the middle strands.
2. Draw strand one through the half-circle on the left.
Step 9: Make a Knot:
1. Pull strand two and strand one in opposite directions.
2.Tighten the knot against the loop.
Note:Notice strand one is on the left and strand two is on the right.
Step 10: Make a Half-circle on the Right Side of the Middle Strands:
1. Move strand two across the middle strands and across strand one.
2. Place strand one over strand two.
Step 11: Make a Half-circle on the Left Side of the Middle Strands:
1. Move strand one under the middle two strands.
2. Draw strand one through the half-circle on the right.
Step 12: Make a Knot:
1. Pull strand one and strand two in opposite directions.
2. Tighten this knot to the previous knot.
Note: Notice strand one is on the right and strand two is on the left.
Step 13: Repeat Steps 6 Through 11:
1. Make the knots until they are 2/3 of the way down your thigh, or...
2. Make the knots until they touch the pinned loop when wrapped around your wrist.
Step 14: Thread the Loose Strands:
1. Thread all four loose strands of hemp through the pea-sized bead
2. Push the bead to the knots.
Step 15: Make a Knot:
1. Wrap the four strands around two fingers.
2. Cross the strings.
3. Pull the string through the hole made by your fingers.
4. Remove your fingers.
5. Tighten the knot to the bead.
Step 16: Finish the Bracelet:
1. Cut the left over string one thumbs width from the knot.
2. Remove the safety pin.
3. Wrap the bracelet around your wrist.
4. Push the bead through the loop to secure it around your wrist.
Step 17: Conclusion:
Troubleshoot:
Measurements can be made using a ruler.
Additional Comments:
The bracelet will show signs of wear after a time, and the material will change it's quality, color, etc.

Another idea, seeing as I couldn't find a pin for my jeans, I just used a clip board. Awesome job btw!

hemp is not marijuana. there in the same 'genus' (idk what the technical term is but there essentially cousins). marijuana plants when mature are about 5-6 feet tall but hemp when mature is over 10! and a quick fun fact you cant get high off of smoking hemp! it contains somthing that counteracts THC. (THC is what gets you high in marijuana)

they're the same plant, just selectively bred to grow taller and to counteract the THC high

This same concept is done in the military using high grade parachute cord, and burning the ends so they don't fray. I have a key chain that's ten years old and shows no signs of fray at all!
Try it with parachute cord--exactly the same process--you'll be so amazed at how strong and great these are. (You can buy parachute cord in large skeins and it is very cheap for the amount you get. Buy it at any army surplus store, or online)
I liked your Instructable--I've been trying to do this forever and always got "tied up" lol...
