Introduction: How to Make a Bottle Rocket

About: I am a hardcore rocketry ensusiast and would love to share my skills with you P.S I love to eat lemon tart

Hello space enthusiasts this is my first ever instructable: how to make a high flying water rocket. This did not take very long to make and I hope you will have fun launching and flying it around your backyard (just don’t give the neighbors severe head injuries)

Here is some good German techno to keep your morale up while building this rocket.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

To make this rocket you will need the following materials:
2x 1.5 L bottles
1x plastic paper cover / folder
1 golf ball
1 piece of paper
1 ping pong ball
And the following tools:
A craft knife
Hot glue gun + glue sticks
A pair of scissors
🦆tape
And lastly a sharpie.

Step 2: Removing Labels and Cutting Bottles

First remove the labels from the two bottles, then with the bottle with the pointest nose, cut off the bottom and the top. First with the knife then carry on with the scissors.

Step 3: Removing O Rings From Pressure Chamber and Nose Cone Tip

To remove the O ring from the pressure chamber you need to get your knife down the side of the O ring and push out. it can be hard so in case you find it too difficult to do you can put your scissors down the gap and cut it like that instead.
Next, to make the nose cone more aerodynamic you need to cut your ping pong ball in half with your knife & scissors, then cut the top off your nose.
Now hot glue your golf ball into the half ping pong ball so you can tape it to the top of the nose.

Step 4: Fin Pod

To make some really good fins you will first need to make a template. Copy the template picture and cut out of your folder. So now you have 3 fins cut out of your folder, you now fold the ends of all 3 fins as shown in the second picture. Now glue your fins to the middle part of the bottle from step 2, this will be the fin pod. P.S keep your fin template, it will come in handy.

Step 5: Assembly

Now after making a nose cone, fin pod & pressure chamber we can connect all the pieces together. First flip the main bottle/pressure chamber upside down and connect the fin pod, it should slide on nicely. If it does not fit nicely however, You cut a slit down the middle and slide it on that way. Then tape it up the middle to make it tight. Next take your nose and tape it to the top. BONUS FEATURE: if you want a Yuri Gagarin styled landing. (Only true space fans will know what I mean) You could; 1. Not tape the nose cone to the rocket, and, 2.put a parachute man in the nose cone and at apogee the nose will fall off , and he will jump out.

Step 6: Finished!

Now you have made the rocket, how about giving it a name?
I called mine the “you’ve got mail”
If you’re wanting to launch yours but don’t have a Launcher don’t worry, I will be posting another instructable soon on how to make a Launcher.

Thanks for reading and god speed to your parachute men.
