Step 1: Plate

According the shape and size of the dress, plate it, and draw it on the model. It will be more fit than just measure size flat. It is the original silhouette of the dress.

Step 2: Cut Out

Cut Out inner fabric according to the plate we made last step, one part by one party, then pin them on the model. You will need lots of pins from this steps.

Step 3: Draping

The innner was finished already according to the plate.

Then we need to cut the shape of outter with the material in dress shape one part by one part.

Pin it to the model with pins same as inner.

At this step, some details will be finished, like pleated, wraps and so on.

Step 4: Sew

After all part was cut accurately, it can't be just connected with pins, we need to sew them together with sewing machine.

Cut down the exta fabric, and accenture the pleats, wrap details of the dress.

After finish this step, a beautiful prom dress silhouette is finished.

Step 5: Beading

Sewing squins, applique, beadings and other embellishment by hand if the dress has.

Od you can attach beadings, sequins, rhinestone by glue, just as you wish.

But I am prefer to sew them, for it will make them sustainable.

Step 6: Custom Made Prom Dresses at Happyprom

After finish the dress, you can iron it to get rid of wrinkle.

I have to say it is interesting to make a prom dress yourself, but it really a time-cost work, and not all of us have talent to be a tailor to make a dress from zero to a new dress.

So the best way is to reuse an old prom dress, cut it down, add some embellishments, or mismatching it with different accessory.

Before you start to a custom made prom dress, you should know how to measure yourself correctly:

Bust: Measure around the fullest part of the bust with your bra you are going to wear to party on, at the same time, keep your arms relaxed, down at your sides.
Waist: This is the narrowest part of your waist. Remember to keep the tape measure as horizontal as possible. Hip: Measure the widest area of your hips, usually about 8” below your natural waistline. The tape should just sit on your hip bones. Height: Measure from the floor to the top of your head with or without shoes on.
