Introduction: How to Make a REAL Pizza

About: boom

Hey guys!

In this Instructables I will be teaching you all on how to make an awesome homemade pizza from scratch, and as well as some tips and tricks to make you a top-notch pizza chef.

Why make your own pizza? Well, making a pizza is super fun and can be done with the entire family as a family activity. Or next time your kids have friends over and you don't want them playing video games all day, you can have them make their own pizza lunch. Or maybe your local pizza shop just doesn't make the kind of pizza you like and you want to make your own. C'mon lets be real now, why NOT make your own pizza?

Lets get started!

Step 1: Stuff You'll Need

Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour - 2 Cups
  • Active dry yeast - 1 tsp
  • Sugar -1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1 pinch
  • WARM water - 3/4 cup
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Cheese
  • Olive Oil
  • BBQ Sauce (optional)
  • Other toppings (if desired)

Kitchen Appliances/Utensils Needed:

  • Oven (Preheated to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit, or 220 Degrees Celsius)
  • Rolling Pin
  • Fork
  • Cutting Board
  • Pizza Pan (can be substituted with an Aluminum Foil Pie Plate)
  • Measuring Cups/Spoons
  • Bread Machine (optional, but recommended)

Step 2: That Dough Though

First up in the pizza producing procedure is to mix...

  • 2 cups of All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp of Active Dry Yeast
  • 1/2 tsp of Sugar
  • 1 Pinch of Salt
  • 3/4 cup of WARM water (warm =/= cold water)

...into the bread machine or a bowl if you don't have a bread machine.

Step 3: Need to Knead

Set your bread-maker to the "Dough" option and let it run until it tells you its ready.

If you don't have a bread-maker handy, you can knead it with your hands using a fold push method until it is a smooth texture.

Step 4: Rise, My Glorious Creation!!!

If you're using a Bread-Maker, set it on "dough" option and wait until the machine tells you the dough is ready.

If you're using a bowl, cover the bowl with a lid and put it in the oven with the oven lights on. Alternatively you can wrap it in a blanket if it is a warm day. Take the dough out once it has doubled in size.

Waiting for the dough to rise is the longest step in this process, it took me 1 hour 30 minutes to get the dough to knead and double in size.

Step 5: DON'T FORGET TO PREHEAT THE OVEN!!

After the dough is complete, preheat the oven to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit (220 Degrees Celsius) to save yourself some waiting time.

Step 6: Shaping the Dough

Before you remove your dough from its rising-container / or bread machine, spread some more flour on your cutting board and pizza pan to prevent sticking.

When you have prevented such a sticky situation from occurring, move the dough to the cutting board and begin shaping it to the size of your pizza pan. Keep in mind the pan can be any shape you desire, so feel free to get creative with different shapes of pans.

Once the dough has been properly sized, place it in the pizza pan.

*PRO TIP: For those who prefer a thicker base, use more dough. For those who like thin pizzas, use less dough.

Step 7: Crafting the Crust

Rub a layer of olive oil on the crust to make sure the crust does not become dry and disgusting during the baking phase.

Step 8: Holey Moley!

Now that the crust has been prepared, time to poke a generous amount of holes in the base of the pizza. Theses holes prevent "dough bubbles" from forming during baking phase.

Step 9: BBQ Sauce???

Now for the sauces! Start by blobbing blobs of pasta sauce onto the dough, being very careful not to get any on the crust. Spread the sauce thoroughly and make sure you do not put too much or too little in one spot. Once the pasta sauce has been distributed evenly, drip little dots of BBQ sauce in random places over the pasta sauce. The BBQ sauce is so that every occasional bite, you experience a nice tangy taste and leaves you searching for more blobs of BBQ sauce hidden under the cheese.

Eating a slice of pizza with a dot of BBQ sauce reminds me of finding Easter eggs on Easter...

Step 10: Cheese Please!

Apply a generous amount of cheese to the pizza once the BBQ dots have been placed. Make sure not to get too much cheese on the crust or else it will be very awkward to hold a slice of pizza once it is done.

Add other toppings on top of the cheese if you desire!

Step 11: Make or Bake!

Your pizza is nearly done! Assuming your oven is already preheated to 425 Degrees Fahrenheit(or 220 Degrees Celsius) throw your pizza in the oven for 10 minutes and let the magic happen.

**USE KITCHEN MITTENS (425 Degrees is actually pretty hot)**

Step 12: DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Ayyyy we're done!

Serve with some fresh salad and your favorite drink and you've got yourself a great meal!

Step 13: Don't Forget the Secret Ingredient!!

Sike! There is no secret ingredient.

A great pizza is not made from a secret ingredient, but rather is from trial and error.

The measurements and ingredients I have given to you guys is what creates MY perfect pizza. Some of you may prefer a thinner crust, more or less sauce, different cheese etc... Experiment with different amounts of flour, water etc... until you have customized YOUR very own perfect pizza.
