Introduction: How to Make a Simple Candle Lantern From Pomegranate

About: Enthusiastic about making art with everything around me.

One windy day in October, I had a feeling of making a craft that gives me the vibes of fall season. That same day an idea came up to my mind; We have lots of pomegranate fruits, so why not core a pomegranate and use it to make a candle lantern; and so it was.

Supplies

The supplies I used are found in every household, so there is no need to buy anything new to make this craft apart from the pomegranate, so here is the very short list of tools :

  • one pomegranate.
  • A spoon.
  • A knife.
  • One small candle.
  • A Toothpick or a birthday candle holder.

Step 1: Coring the Pomegranate

The first thing you have to do is to core the pomegranate following these steps:

  1. use the knife to cut the upper part of the pomegranate.
  2. use the knife to draw the circumference you are going to core within.
  3. use the spoon to remove the pomegranate seeds ( by the way, you can use them to make juice).
  4. make sure the pomegranate is clean by washing it.
  5. leave it to dry for an hour or so.

Step 2: Carving

The second step is to carve the pomegranate following these steps:

  1. search the internet for silhouette shapes.
  2. choose a pattern or shape to carve (I chose a butterfly).
  3. draw the shape by a carving tool or a knife.
  4. trace and cut the shape you've drawn.

Step 3: Lighting Up

Finally, it's time to let the lantern illuminate.

  1. (optional) leave the carved pomegranate for several days until the moisture comes out of it and it gets dry.
  2. use the birthday candle holder to fix the candle in the pomegranate ( I didn't have one so I used a toothpick).
  3. turn of the lights and make it as dark as you can.
  4. light the candle.

Step 4: Enjoy the Show

Now you have this easily-made decorative lantern, and you can also enjoy watching the shadow it draws on the wall.
