How to Make a Telescope Eyepiece Color Filters at Home

filters are expensive especially when you are a student so if you can't buy one like me let's make it!

Supplies

1. you will need :

1. epoxy resin

2. casting silicone

3. cheap moon filter(almost included with telescopes)(mine is 1.25 inch)

4. wood stick(or something like plastic spoons)

5. Disposable plastic cup

6.resin epoxy transparent colors(yellow,blue,red)

7. scissor

8. digital scale

9. Color combination table

10. lighter

Step 1: Studing

At this time you need to study silicon casting and how to work with resin from youtube. these videos help me a lot:

(also I don't have an air pressure compressor)

Step 2: Make a Cast of Moon Filter

With the scissor cut the Disposable plastic cup after that by the thing you learned from the videos or you know from the past make a mold with casting silicone.

Step 3: Make and Color the Epoxy Resin

For resin casting mix the parts together. The mass of the mixed liquid at least needs to be about 3 grams, then add color to the mixed liquid and mixed it for about 1 minute after that at least take the cut cup in the 20 cm from the mold and shed the resin to the mold. Therefore you can use a lighter to take out the little Bubbles from the mold but you can't take all Bubbles out because you will need an air compressor. You only can decrease the Bubbles with some work. also, I've sent a guide on color mixing to help you to make your own colors better.

Step 4: Make a New Filter

After about 10 hours you can take the filters out but don't touch the center of copied filters when the filters aren't completely dry because it can affect the quality of the filter.

Step 5: Use It

Now you have a wide of different filters you can use them. Also, you can make vary color filters with any color you want or if one of your filters broke you can make it again. have fun!
