How to Make an Icosahedron Shaped Plaster Paperweight

Step 1: Glue a Blank Piece of Paper (any Size) Onto a Piece of High Impact Polystyrene As Shown in the Photo.

Step 2: Using a 45º Set Square and a Pencil, Draw a Horizontal Line With a Length of 7cm As Shown.

Step 3: Using the 45º Set Square, Draw a Short Line Vertically at the 3.5 Mark As Shown.

Step 4: Align the 45º Set Square So That the Centimetres Side Is Facing Upwards, Then Use It to Draw a Line Vertically From 0cm to 6 Cm Continuing From the Line Made at the 3.5 Mark As Shown Below.

Step 5: Move the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the 45º Set Square Is Right Next to the Right End of the Horizontal Line and the 7cm Mark Is Right Next to the Tip of the 6cm Long Vertical Line As Shown, Then Draw a Line From the 0cm Mark to the 7cm Mark.

Step 6: Move the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the 45º Set Square Is Right Next to the Left End of the Horizontal Line and the 7cm Mark Is Right Next to the Tip of the 6cm Long Vertical Line As Shown, Then Draw a Line From the 0cm Mark to the 7cm Mark.

Step 7: Use Scissors to Cut Out the Triangle You Have Drawn

Step 8: Peel Off the Piece of Paper Glued to the Newly Cut Out Triangle.

Step 9: Repeat Steps 2-8 Until You Have a Total of 20 Triangles (including the First One) As Shown. If You Run Out of Polystyrene, Repeat Step 1.

Step 10: Tape the Triangles Together So That You Have a Geometric Nets That Looks Like the One Shown Below.

Step 11: Tape the Sides of the Net Together So That You Create a Shape Exactly Like the One Shown Below. Make Sure to Use Extra Tape to Cover Up Any Holes in the Corners So That There Will Be No Leakage When Pouring the Plaster Later On.

Step 12: Using the 45º Set Square, Draw a Horizontal Line With 3 Cm Length As Shown.

Step 13: Use the 45º Set Square to Measure 1.5 Cm Starting From the Left Side of the Horizontal Line. Make a Small Mark at the 1.5th Cm on the Horizontal Line As Shown.

Step 14: Align the 45º Set Square So That the Centimetres Side Is Facing Upwards, Then Use It to Draw a Line Vertically From 0cm to 2.6 Cm Continuing From the Line Made at the 1.5 Mark As Shown Below.

Step 15: Move the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the 45º Set Square Is Right Next to the Left End of the Horizontal Line and the 3cm Mark Is Right Next to the Tip of the 2.6cm Long Vertical Line As Shown, Then Draw a Line From the 0cm Mark to the 3cm Mark.

Step 16: Move the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the 45º Set Square Is Right Next to the Left End of the Horizontal Line and the 3cm Mark Is Right Next to the Tip of the 2.6cm Long Vertical Line As Shown, Then Draw a Line From the 0cm Mark to the 3cm Mark.

Step 17: Use Scissors to Cut Out the Triangle.

Step 18: Peel Off the Paper Glued to the Triangle.

Step 19: Repeat Steps 12-18 Until You Have a Total of 2 Small Triangles.

Step 20: Using a 45º Set Square and a Pencil, Draw a Horizontal Line With a Length of 7cm As Shown.

Step 21: Align the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the Set Square Is at the Right End of the Horizontal Line. Draw a Vertical Line From the 0 Cm Mark to the 3cm Mark.

Step 22: Draw a Horizontal Line With a Length of 7cm As Shown by Aligning the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark Is Right Under the Tip of the Vertical Line and Then Drawing a Line That Is 7cm Long.

Step 23: Align the 45º Set Square So That the 0cm Mark on the Set Square Is at the Left End of the First Horizontal Line. Draw a Vertical Line From the 0 Cm Mark to the 3cm Mark. the Vertical Line Should Connect the First Horizontal Line to the Second One.

Step 24: Use Scissors to Cut Out the Newly Drawn Rectangle.

Step 25: Peel Off the Paper That Is Glued to the Newly Cut Out Rectangle.

Step 26: Repeat Steps 20-25 Until You Have a Total of 3 Rectangles.

Step 27: Tape the Rectangles and the Triangles So That You Have a Triangular Prism Net As Shown Below.

Step 28: Tape the Sides of the Net Togethers So That You Have a Triangular Prism As Shown Below. Be Sure to Cover All the Holes With Tape.

Step 29: Mix 4 Cups of Water With 6 Cups of Plaster by Using a Spatula.

Step 30: Pour All the Plaster Into the Mould and Then Place the Core Into the Mould. Make Sure That the Core Is As Centered As Possible and Not Leaning Sideways. Use Tape to Hold the Core in Place by Taping the Core to the 3 Top Sides of the Mould As Shown.

Step 31: Leave Everything Out to Dry for 48 Hours.

Step 32: Using a Craft Knife, Cut the Tape That Is Holding the Mould Together. and Carefully Take the Mould Off. Be Sure Not to Cut Any Parts of the Plaster.
