easy fix to get it running you need a fire wire charger for 2nd gen use a double fire wire the fire wire has an extra boost unlike usb that ipods now dont like it will take a couple try's it took me about 30 min to do mine. after that it should boot up with a strong hard drive sound

It happens due to iPods being prone to data corruption. Try not to eject the iPod without unplugging it. Also, prevent it from dropping when the hard drive is spinning.
If you are experiencing the same error, also try to put an iPod in diagnostic mode. Later on, check the iPod’s SMART stats. It will help you evaluate if it is your HDD of the iPod or any other error.
iPods are a thing of the past now. I don’t find them appealing enough for me. But thanks for the hack.
iPods are love. I've been using it mine since 2007 and never faced any issue while copying songs into it. But I do found an issue when I tried using it as an external hard drive. It got hang while I copy multiple or large files. It gets a reboot after a while. But I will use a firewire charger now and see how it works.
