Introduction: How to Moonwalk
A simple instruction on how to pull off the classic dance move "The Moonwalk," as made famous by Michael Jackson.
Step 1: What You'll Need
1. A smooth surface, such as:
2. Shoes that slide/Socks (It's helpful to learn in socks)
4. Music (Optional)
5. Michael Jackson gear (Hat/Glove) (Optional, but fun)
6. Funk (Optional)
Step 2: Get Ready
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, with one foot a bit more forward in relation to the other. (The tip of one foot should line up with the arch of the other.)
In this demonstration, I'm starting with my right foot forward.
Step 3: Pop Yo' Foot
Shift your weight to the ball of your back foot, (in this case, the left) and lift the heel of said foot.
Step 4: Start Movin'
With your weight still on the ball of your raised foot, slide your other foot (the one flat on the ground, in this case, the right) backwards until the toe is in line with the arch of the other foot.
Remember: the raised foot doesn't move!
Step 5: Switch!
You may have noticed that your feet have now switched positions (In my example, the right foot is now the back foot.)
Lower your raised foot (the new front foot) so that it is flat on the ground and raise your other foot (that was flat on the ground), while shifting your weight to the ball of that foot.
Remember: your left foot still has not moved!
Step 6: Move (Again!)
Now, just like we did before, slide your flat foot backwards, remembering to keep your raised foot fixed.
Step 7: Rinse and Repeat
Now you are back in the starting position. Switch the raised foot to the flat position and vice versa, and slide the flat foot again.
Repeat to moonwalk.
Step 8: Congratulations, You Can Moonwalk!
Remember to start slow and get the moves down before going Michael Jackson-fast.
