Introduction: How to Organize Your Medicine Cabinet

About: Your local sugar loving teenager.

A while ago, my mom and I organized our freezer. Since it went so well, we figured "Why not organize other things?" And so we organized our medicine cabinet. In the end, the big question was, "Why hadn't we done this yet?". There was a ridiculous amount of items, many of them expired. Everything is easier to find now, and it's just amazing how easy it was.

In case another person didn't know where to start, my mom and I decided to make this instructable. Yay, organization!

Step 1: Measure

Measure the height, width, and depth of your cabinet.

Step 2: Order Containers.

Using the measurements from step one, order containers to fit your cabinet. We ordered from The Container Store.

Step 3: Remove All Items.

Take everything out. That's right, everything! Then put it in a safe area.

Step 4: Wipe Down.

Dust accumulates on everything. Your cabinet will be no exception, so wipe it down.

Step 5: Sort Wars: Episode I: a New Category

Sort your medicine into piles. Ours were the following:

  • Mom
  • Dad
  • Kids
  • Bandages
  • Pain relievers
  • Mishmash
  • Big items (These were not put into containers.)

Step 6: Sort Wars: Episode II: the Expired Go Back

Sort the expired medicine out of the still useable stuff. Dispose of at your nearest DEA-authorized collector or dispose at home. If you choose to dispose of your medications at home, make sure you follow FDA protocol.

Step 7: Label

Label your containers based on the contents.

Step 8: Place in Cabinet

Place your items in the cabinet. I suggest placing them with the most used on the bottom.

Step 9: Bask in the Glory of Having a Labeled Cabinet.

You are done! Now you can find things easily and it looks nicer too!
