Intro: How to Organize Your Pinterest Boards Into Sections

Welcome to this tutorial on how to:

  • easily create Sections in your Pinterest Boards
  • and organize your Pins even further.

This tutorial uses Pinterest on your web browser.

STEP 1: Login to Pinterest

Login to your Pinterest account.

** If you are following along with us on your Pinterest app via your mobile or tablet, please make sure you have upgraded to the latest operating system or you may not be able to use Pinterest Board Sections.

STEP 2: Choose a Board to Organize Into Sections

Look through your existing Boards and choose one that can be organized into sections.

I have chosen my 'Pumpkin' Board as it contains many recipes that I can further organize into the following sections:

  • Pumpkin Loaf, Bread & Muffins
  • Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
  • Pumpkin Soup
  • Pumpkin Drinks
  • Pumpkin Mains

STEP 3: Click 'Add Section'

Find 'Add Section' at the top of your Board, just under your Board description, and click it.

STEP 4: Name Your New Section

In the popup, give your new section a 'Name'. I will call my first section 'Roasted Pumpkin Seeds.

Then click the Add button.

Success :) Section added!

STEP 5: Choose a Pin to Move to Your New Section

You should still be in the Board that you are organizing into Sections (in my case, Pumpkin)

You will see your new Section at the top (in my case, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds) and it will be displaying empty placeholders for new Pins.

Scroll down past the title of your new Section to view your Board Pins

Choose a Pin to move into your new Section.

Click on the Pencil icon to Edit the Pin you selected.

STEP 6: Move a Pin to Your New Section

In the previous step, you clicked to Edit a Pin. You should now see a popup.

Click the Section dropdown.

From the dropdown, choose the new section you created. (in my case, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds)

Then click 'Save'.

STEP 7: See Your Pin in Your New Pinterest Board 'Section'

Scroll up to the top of your Board.

You should see your new Board Section and the first Pin you have moved into it.

Congratulations!

Continue moving any other Pins that can be categorized into this new section.

Create new Sections for other Pins that can be grouped into categories.

hey thanks for guiding through...that was really well described 👍
Hi, I was wondering if you can create a section. For instance, if you want to have a Board that that in titled Places and do a section like New York, and then add section under New York
How many categories are we limited to? Had a section EATING: GLUTEN FREE which contained 30 categories of GF eating -Recipes, Restaurant Guides, Substitution Guides, etc but found that it stopped listing the boards at 20 (as well as I remember). I could add categories but they would not show up in listing to organize sections alphabetically. So I am confused - we are limited or is this just the Pinterest Glitch of the night?

I used this feature thinking I knew what I was doing, and now the pins I saved to the new section are missing. I created the section as I was editing a pin, and the section does not show up on my board. When I try to create a section on my board thinking that would make the pins show up, it tells me there's already a section with that name. I can go through my thousands of individual pins (not sorted by board) and change the pins back to no section and see them, but I can't remember all the ones I moved. Any advice? If not, I'll just deal with the loss of my pins and research before I try to jump in and organize next time. Thanks!

Oh no - that does not sound like fun! I've had odd things happen while pinning and organizing as well. For me, it will look like nothing has happened after I've pinned something or moved a pin and then later when I go in the pin is in the correct spot but sometimes doubled or tripled. If you just look at your 'Pins' rather than your 'Boards' can you see the pins that seem lost?

I definitely need to reorganize some of my old ones :)

Once I started organizing I also started checking to make sure all of my Pins were still pointing to an active webpage .... hours later! :) (So fun though!)
