Necessary background: This requires little background in computer hardware.

Motivation: If your computers stock a boot cycle or will not boot, this may be the only way to fix it.

Estimated time to complete: 15 Minutes

Items needed:

Push down on the tabs on either side of the RAM till it clicks out. Place the RAM on a soft cloth and in a safe place. Wait 60 seconds after removing RAM, this will ensure a full reset.

Tips

Be careful and deliberate with your hardware, mistakes can be expensive.

STEP 4: Replace RAM

Reinsert your RAM in the same slots they were removed from. (Refer back to your photo to ensure proper placement) You will need to push firmly, so ensure the teeth of the RAM are aligned with your motherboard RAM slots.

Tips.

RAM should be in slots separated by one spot.

Why you just don't restart your computer?
I'm not aware that the ram needs any "settling time " Its depowered when switched off and checked when switched on .
Run a pencil eraser down both sides on the gold contacts to clean. If they look marked rub a bit more . If it does not improve then replace it.
Hi,
Please do not see any offense in my writing ... It's a fun prank we told to new students at the university. I am just pleased that a lot of person did this prank to other persons, until someone brings it to instructables :)
We also learned how to shake cables in order to allow TCP/IP packets to better flow in the cables, but it's another story ...
By the way, why this procedure is useless ? Because RAM only keeps data when powered on: it's a volatile memory. Some "hybrid" memory modules (see Intel Octane) have persistent data storage, but you will not find it in a consumer grade computer: they address particular needs. Persistent storage is the job of your hard drive.
So the best way to reset your RAM is too shutdown your computer. And if you are paranoiac, unplug the power plug from the wall. In fact if you need your computer to forgot something, you would better remove the hard drive and start with a fresh new one.
Be aware, that removing RAM modules too often will lead you to damaging your memory connectors, with no benefit (and it's not a joke :).
