Introduction: How to Serve a Tennis Ball

Well if your answer was yes, Tennis is the sport for you. The most essential part of the game of tennis is the serve. The serve is what gets the point started in action. The serve is essential in starting a point, and finishing a point. In 10 easy steps, you will learn how to hit an easy and efficient tennis serve.

Step 1: Step 1: Clothing

Clothing is important when it comes to playing tennis. You need to stay comfortable and relaxed when hitting a tennis serve.

Guys: Athletic shorts, athletic t-shirt (Preferably dry fit), high top socks, and tennis shoes

Girls: Athletic skirts, athletic top, high top socks, and tennis shoes.

Step 2: Step 2: Materials

Materials count the most when serving because they are the bases of serving.

You are going to need:

*Tennis Balls

*Tennis racquet

*Tennis Court

Step 3: Step 3: Stance

You are going to want to stand parallel to the baseline (The farthest line back on the tennis court)
If you are right handed your left shoulder should be facing the net.

If you are left handed your right shoulder should be facing the net.

Step 4: Step 4: Holding the Racquet (Continental Grip)

You want to hold the tennis Racquet like you are shaking someone's hand.

Simple, easy, and firm

You want your index finger on bevel 2 (Which is on the right side of the racquet if you are right handed)

Step 5: Step 5: Toss

You want to practice tossing the ball in front of you.

(Side of your body. Ex: Standing with left shoulder to court throw ball up and let it land down on the left side of your body)
If you are right handed( Racquet in right hand) you want to toss the ball with your left hand

If you are left handed( Racquet in left hand) you want to toss the ball with your right hand.

The ball should fall in front (To the side of you) inside the court every single time

Step 6: Step 6: Racquet Position

When you toss the ball into the air you want to simultaneously move the racquet behind your head.

This position helps maximize the most amount of effort and accuracy into each serve.

Step 7: Step 7: Legs

When you toss the ball into the air, and move your racquet simultaneously behind your head; you will also have to bend your legs.

The bend in your legs helps you propel up to hit the ball.

Step 8: Step 8: Pronation

When you toss the ball into the air, bend your legs, and move the racquet behind your head all at the same time the final step you want to take is pronation.

When you jump up to the ball, you want to hit down on the ball at it's highest point.

Step 9: Step 9: Jumping Into the Court

After you finish hitting the ball the highest point, you will want to jump into the court to generate pace (power).

The key to the finish is balance.

Step 10: Step 10: Positioning

Once you have mastered the racquet grip, toss, racquet head positioning, and pronation; you will want to work on positioning.

Positioning is a very important part of the serve because it keeps the opponent on their toes. They won't know where you're hitting the ball.

To help with positioning you need to change one thing: your toss.

The toss will dictate where you're hitting the ball to. Toss the ball in front (to the side of your body) and you will hit a flat hard serve. Toss the ball above your head and you will hit a spin serve.
