Introduction: How to Steer a Sled So You Can Fly Down the Hill Like This
Do you want to be able to fly down a hill like this? This is a guide to how to do it.
Step 1: Starting Position
When sitting in the sled, make sure your butt is as far back in the sled as it can be, that your legs are either straight or your feet are at the end of the sled and that your arms are balanced on either side of you.
Step 2: Turning to the Left
Put out your left hand slightly behind you and drag it in the snow. You will also want to lean slightly to your left. If you want to turn more drag your hand deeper in the snow and lean more to your left.
Step 3: Turning to the Right
Put out your right hand slightly behind you and drag it in the snow. You will also want to lean slightly to your right. If you want to turn more drag your hand deeper in the snow and lean more to your right.
Step 4: Let's See These Turns in Action
Watch the hand drag and the body lean as the sledder goes through the turns.
Step 5: Close Up of Turning
Here is a different angle showing good turning technique. Note, the hand drag behind me, and how my upper body leans to the same side as the hand drag.
Step 6: Try It for Yourself
Now that you know how to turn, get out there, dig a trail, and start sledding. You can do it at any age.
